If you could play any musical instrument, what would it be and why? If you already play an instrument(s), what do you play and why?

The 'do you play a musical instrument' question if often asked, but I thought I'd do a variation on it & include finding out who already plays. We have so many new members, I'd like to see what the answers are like this time!

If you already play one, or more, you can also answer what other(s) you want to play

As previously mentioned, there have been similar threads on musical instruments. I searched and found these, if you would like to see some, here are some links:

For me it would be the guitar because I love to sing the lyrics to the songs as well. I actually took acoustic guitar lessons many years ago and learned to play Color My World by memory as my "final exam". A guitar is good because its portable.

Sadly I let the classes and practice lapse since my voice sounds like a croaking frogs, I believe the term Johnny One Note was always identified with my voice.

I taught myself piano when I was young, but I haven't played in ages. I picked up on a friend's keyboard recently & got a little bit out, but I was so rusty! I'd love to start up again, but I don't own my own keyboard, so it'd be a little tough.

I am in no way musically talented. The only thing I do is write lyrics....

My husband is an amazing guitar player! He can listen to a song and play it back from memory--perfectly! He plays and owns many electric and acoustic guitars.

I play a little piano, can hold a tune on the flute, and have started the sax.

I play tons of instruments. Whether I am SKILLED at them or not is another story

I am most skilled with non-bowed stringed instruments - guitar, mandolin, etc.

I do not play a instrument but would love to learn to play the violin. I know they are expensive so I will have to plan to save for one. I never played one in school I was always in the choir singing instead.

I already play guitar and piano but I really want to play the theremin! It just has such a unique sound.

Piano, I just love the way it sounds. I actually had piano lessons as a kid, but never had talent or patience to learn how to play properly.

In elementary school/middle school i played flute, and getting into high school i picked up bass guitar - which i wish i had stuck with. I can barely remember how to play some tabs, but i do pride myself on still knowing hot to hold a guitar correctly. I'm realizing now, having so many friends in local bands what a great skill it would be and how nice it would be to just jam with friends once in a while. If i could afford to get a new bass i would since i sold my chepo one a while back. Picking up the flute again would be pretty awesome as well, but that one was pretty hard and i just cant see me having the time to work on it with school as well.
My partner is a drummer, and i've played around on his set a few times to find it's a terribly hard instrument to play and requiers much more hand/foot coordination that i can mustar. A friend of mine happens to be a guitar teacher and is supposed to start skype lessons with him soon since he owns one, but has no real idea how to play.

I guess you could count my own voice box as well. I did chorus since elementary school until i went into a private high school that didnt have a program for it. My mother still encourages me to join a local chorus group but after having been a smoker for 7+ years i'm not sure if it's really a tallent of mine anymore. I've had plenty of friends joke about/ask why i'm not currently in a band and how my partner and i should start one together. The most i do now is just sing-a-longs to bands with friends or in the car, and very rarely will sing my partner to sleep (after he once asked me to when he found i sing to myself when i feel really nauseous).

I don't play any instruments, but I would like to learn to drum. Then again, there is just something about sitting down with an acoustic guitar...I have fond memories of an ex. LOL.

I had to look up the theremin, how interesting that is! I watched a bunch of YouTube videos where people played it. Thanks for introducing me to it!

Thanks for all the answers! I am always interested in who plays what instrument(s)! I answered more in depth in another thread mentioned above, so I'll just say here that I am classically trained in piano, flute & piccolo for most of my life. I am not at all good at improvising/jamming which drives me crazy, but, oh well. Now, give me sheet music & I am your girl!

i'd play a few things, but i think the piano would be number one on my list. there are a lot of times where i wish i had taken my piano lessons more seriously when i was little, and stuck w/ it.

Either a guitar or piano would be pretty awesome. Guitar seems fun, piano seems classy
