I've been in more than a few collisions where the car was a total loss, each time both my passenger(s) and I were able to walk away because I always insist everybody wear their seatbelt.
Is there a reason you do/do not wear your seatbelt? (Working throught issues, thanks for your help)

I always wear my seat belt because it's the law, and because I do think it is the safer thing to do. I have friends who have been in accidents where their cars rolled several times - the one who wasn't wearing her seat belt got hurt a lot worse than the one who was wearing her seat belt.
