Men wearing makeup

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
What are your opinions on it? I know some guys who do the full eyeliner/shadow/founda tion/blush thing, and there are some guys who use some coverup or concealer for covering up things like acne or rosacea (pardon my spelling if I spelled that wrong).

This came up on the radio the other day and I was impressed, for lack of a better word, at the wide variety of responses on the topic. Some people thought it was perfectly fine so long as they're not harming anyone, some felt that makeup for men should be reserved only for newscasters and performers, and some felt that men should never wear makeup under any circumstances.

I'm in the category of "to each their own, so long as you're not trying to control others, there's really no harm" for the most part. I debated on making this a poll, but the opinions can vary so widely that I didn't feel I could adequately cover everything without a long list of 'others'. How do you guys feel about men wearing makeup?

I do not care what other people do in terms of makeup, quite honestly. Their body, their life.

Me personally, I used to wear makeup. A little eyeliner, some mascara. HAHAHA!!! That was fun. I don't anymore (obviously). A little old for that, I think.

I generally don't mind one way or another. Make-up is fun so why not let it be for everybody that wants in. I know it may not be the socially accepted norm but I'm fairly liberal so I guess it's a live and let live thing.

However, being the girl that likes the bad influences, I have always always always had a thing for men that wear black eyeliner. It was 'in' when I was in high school and my first few serious boyfriends would wear it. Not a ton of it though, and no other make-up, just enough for it to show on some actors, punk singers, that kind of thing. To this day it's a major turn on for me, but I don't know how I'd take it if a man I was with that was an everyday joe decided to give it a try NOW. I'm not sure it would have the same effect.

As long as it looks tastefully done who cares? I feel the same way about women wearing make-up!

On the right man, black eyeliner, black lipstick, black nail polish or a cocktail of the three is ungodly sexy.

I've worn make up. I'd do it again. It's not really a big thing with me. The only problem I have with it is taste.

I used to be the make up artist for the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' live cast in my area (as well as community theatrical productions), so I saw the whole spectrum of make up styles on men. It does nothing for me - wear it if you want, I don't care. I think when you're in the business of making people up, you tend to just not care what people do on their own time with it. The only real rule I stuck to was not to wear your 'character' outside the theatre.

That's actually really cool. Not wearing your 'character' outside of the theatre sounds like a good rule, although if I were playing some of them I wouldn't want to be seen outside the theatre in that makeup, lol

From an attraction point of view, I like my guys to be makeup-less, but I don't rule out the possibility of being with a guy who wears makeup. I think I wouldn't mind a little (say the dreadfully named "guyliner"), but the whole shebang (lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, etc.) is not to my taste. Other than, to each his own.

See, I'm totally the opposite. I can't take that poor excuse for putting on face called "guyliner." No thank you, Katherine Moennig!!! If I am going to date a guy that wears make-up he better be able to do the whole damn thing, like David Bowie or RuPaul. You aren't coming out with me in public with your smudgy-ass mascara like that's a look! Like I said above: some of the men in the MAC or Sephora stores could totally be my boyfriends.

That's just me, though

Sometimes I wear clear mascara and a touch of grey eyeliner under my eyes, it makes me look awake. Anything more, forget about it.

I like just eyeliner on my man when we go to do photos but not anything else. but i know some gay guys who pull off the really bright colorful raver kind of make up really well and they put on multiple colors of eyeshadow and put on mascara eyeliner lipstick blush and everything and they look amazing when they are done.

I think a little coverup here and there for acne or whatever is perfectly fine, as long as they don't go overboard. My sister however loves eyeliner on a man. I wouldn't say that's gross or anything. Just different. I wouldn't want to offend my sister by saying something rude about it. It's not harming me, so go right ahead. I also have a friend who dresses as a woman sometimes for fun and that's perfectly fine for him too. BUT my husband will never be caught with more than coverup. Well, he wouldn't probably ever wear that much, but that's all I would like to see on him if anything.

I like it now and then, I pretty much always like a touch of eyeliner on a guy and some black nail polish.
I tend to be more attracted to sort of goth type men for that reason I think.

i recently decided, with the consent of my partner, that the next time we throw a party, i'm putting mascara on him. he added that he wants eyeliner too. he's a wild n crazy artist... so i doubt anyone would think anything of it. and it would look hot. i'd love to play with some sexy, dark makeup on him.

nothing wrong with it at all! women wear pants, and cut their hair, so why the hell can't men wear makeup?

I think eyeliner looks really sexy on a lot of guys. Also, I have a thing for androgyny.
