What "Group" were you a part of in High School?

Contributor: P'Gell P'Gell
Yeah. An other post got me thinking about this. I am afraid I'll get the terms wrong....because I'm.....mature. LOL! (No, its because I've been out of High School a long time.)

I was just curious. You can vote for more than one.

I'm a bit surprised neither of my groups was on there! I was a theatre girl, and I was part of the weird artists group.

But, I was kind of one of those floaters that was friends with someone in all of the cliques.

I was part of the "popular" group and the ones who kind of caused some trouble when I was in middle school. I calmed down a bit after freshman year in high school, but I was still good friends with the people I hung out with in middle school. As I calmed down I also started hanging out with people from different groups. So maybe I am more of a floater

So my school was REALLY divided. I was in the optional program with all of the ACT-prep-book-lugging Asians and other stereotypical smart kids. These kids freaked out at the idea of "hooking up" meaning anything other than a little kissing (one of the so-called partiers of that side of school hadn't even done second-base). Then there were the "standard" kids that were getting pregnant left and right and had fights outside school once or twice a week.

The people I hung out with were all in my art classes. They were all pretty balanced when it came to school work vs. other teenager stuff. Everyone in there was fun. We had a mix of standard and optional kids, and we all had quirks, our own styles/personalities, etc. And our teacher was an illustrator for a cryptozoology magazine, which was kinda awesome. That's the only place I really felt at home... Everyone in my other classes (where it was pretty much only high-achieving robots) was too competitive and focused on studying. In art, I could relax

Understandable. I was one of those artsy, study hard, stoner, musician, rocker kids. No one really knew me in my own grade even. Either way, it worked out in the end. Just glad I'm done with high school, definitely not somewhere I want to go back to.

I'm sorry. It's been a long time since I was in High School, and I was wracking my brain trying to include everything I could remember. I hung out with theater kids my freshman year, and then didn't for the rest of High School, for some reason. However, at University, despite being a Psych/Pre Med major, I hung out with the theater crowd so much that people thought I was a Theater Major. I probably didn't include this group because all the Theater Kids in my High School were either Stoners or Disco Kids as well.

You didn't mention Drama/Theatre or Band; which is where I spent most of my time in my two different high schools. (Drama 9th and 10th grade. Band 11th and 12th (flute/picc)) Geeks and nerds do not qualify band kids. They're a whole different brand of geek (the kind who can listen to a symphony and pick apart the instruments by sound alone).

I also hung out with folks who were in many of the other groups as well because I'm one of those people who meets and acquaints myself with people easily. I had very few good friends. I'm still like that.

I think it's hard to tease apart these groups, depending on where and when you went to High School. When I was in HS, Band and Theater were not involved with each other at all, I guess they are at many schools. I went to a HUGE High School and there were so many groups.

At my High School the Band kids and the Choir Kids sometimes hung out together, like a weird Venn Diagram (brass was part of the Geek group, but Choir was part of the Teacher's Pet/Model/Perfection group, for whatever reason) but the Theater Kids hung out with the Freaks or the Disco/Dance/Guidos. Every place has it's own dynamic, and I guess I get beat with a cherry scented dildo for forgetting Theater and Band.

I know how you feel. My parents were strict apostolic christians so my entire childhood and adolescence was very awkward. I did not fully discover my self identity until recently. I am an eclectic and I love all types of fashion, music, and lifestyles. There are so many choices in life to pick just one.

I was in band and editor of our school paper all through high school, but I hung out with and identified with the burnouts and punk rockers (I didn't have to watch my P's and Q's so much with them -- and they threw better parties).

I had casual friends in all categories and could mesh well into any group for a short time (usually long enough to hit a party or two). I do not do well with holding my tongue (if I see bullshit or someone talking crap I call it like I see it) and my friends knew it and would shoo me along if they saw a potential embarrassing moment in their future.

I was a jock but didn't care for the local goings-on. I dated a girl from a different HS to stay away from the local gossip. Went away to college and never went back. They're having the 30 year reunion this year. I wish them well but I will not be going 3k miles to be there.

Same here. I dated a boy from a neighboring high school as well for the same reasons. My 20 yr reunion is in Sept. I have no desire to go back. I only have 1 friend that I still keep in contact with from high school.

Sounds a lot like me! I got along with most everybody, but I had my own tight knit group of friends. They're mostly nerds and rockers. And a few people that often make me wonder about their mental stability...

Though rather than starting trouble I usually ended up being nominated to drag my friends away from their skirmishes, kicking and screaming.

I was an inbetweener...but most of my friends were stoners so I was an 'honorary' stoner. I was far too afraid of my parents to actually do drugs and my father is an alcoholic so they understood my aversion to drinking. I found the least amount of criticism from that crowd and was able to be myself there.
I was also part of the 'theater crowd' but OMG talk about pressure to conform! Odd sonce you would think it would be the opposite amoungst artsy folk...

My daughter made me choose the Llamas because if there had BEEN any Llamas in my High School I WOULD have hung out with them....ya know, cause they are Llamas...
She loves Llamas and named our guild in WOW "Llama Lords Of Science". Her sister chose "Sock Puppets of Doom"...my kids are just as oddly creative as their Mother and Father.

I'm with LingaLoo here. There wasn't so much of a division in my high school that you could be called any one thing. I was into a lot of things, sports, chess, table tennis, general socialising, tech, even worked in the library on my lunch breaks. But that was mainly because I liked one of the sixth formers there.

I do have one question, though. What is a prep?
