What Was Your First Talking Toy?

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
My very first talking toy was a Mother Goose doll; you put tapes into her body underneath her wing and she would narrate all of the Mother Goose stories. I also had one of those talking robots that you slid the cards into his back, but I can't remember his name right off the top of my head.

What about you? What was your first talking toy? A see 'n say, perhaps?

I think my first talking toy was "Mona the Love Doll" and she had a soundtrack of moaning sounds. Oh wait, that's not what you mean...

I think I'm too old to have had any talking toys that I can remember.

Oh, you! LOL We'll count her, then. I think I'd be totally creeped by a doll that moans.

That bear, back in the 80's. Took tapes, also. I can't remember the name of it. Started with an R, I think. I'm getting old ;A;

Teddy Ruxpin. That was my first talking toy too. I loved that thing - that is how I learned to read.

Hahaha! When I read the title I was thinking talking sex toy! Like something that would talk dirty to you. That would be kinda cool

I was thinking talking sex toy too! LOL I didn't have many talking toys, but I did have a Chatty Cathy doll. She'd be worth a fair bit of money now, if I still had her. As she began to age, her voice began to wear out and slow down and she sounded pretty damn creepy when you'd pull her string!

After thinking long and hard, I'm not sure about anything before I got my Furbie. I found out much later in life that a lot of our toys were supposed to talk and make noise, but my mom never put the batteries in. Smart woman lol.

Whew!! I was thinking I was getting shorted on the old vibrators! Mine was the Old Macdonalds Farm...you know, the cow says mooo, you had to pull the string and wait for the arrow to stop. Yeah, it's been awhile.

Ok, showing my age here: Mine was this butt-ugly doll called Mrs. Beasley. You pulled a string and she repeated the same handful of phrases over and over. I liked it for awhile, but it wasn't as fascinating as when I got a Baby Alive doll--- at least that one pooped fruit pudding and freaked out my mom

OMG!!! I had a Mrs. Beasley and a Baby Alive! Rember that nasty bagged food! Her insides got all clogged up with it and we had to throw her out. I loved my Mrs. Beasley doll and her old lady cute glasses that came off. What show was that from? My 3 sons? Now I have to google it.
It was Family Affair.

LOL! Well they were the "in" toys of their era so I think most of us had them. Oh yuck, yes I remember that food, and when I ran out of it I fed the doll applesauce, which my mom said is what clogged mine up. Since yours did it too though, I guess they were just destined to be constipated dolls right from the start (lol).
You know, I don't even think I ever saw Family Affair so now I'm wondering how I wound up with the doll! Usually these things came from seeing something on TV and then bugging mom crazy until she bought it
