Hello, my dear friends!

Some of you leave our community , some join ... but it seems I've never asked how you heard about EF's forum.

It would be interesting to learn where you found that happy ticket!

We are always happy ... more
I stumbled upon it from the site itself! And so much more that EF has to offer. I'm still novice trying to figure it all out!

One option might be to hold some kind of monthly contest for a small gift card/account credit that requires using the forum to enter. Could be randomly selected from all the unique posters in the thread, could be based on some measure of skill or merit.

Another option might be to reopen the Eden Games section, but have the ability to earn points by posting in that subforum turned off, to prevent the kind of spamming we had back before I joined up. I'll post more ideas if I think of any.

EDIT: The simplest way to promote the forum might be to get the web design toolkit back out and move the forum link to the category list at the top of the page, rather than it being under the Info header. Would at least make the fact that there is a forum more visible.

Edit #2: Can we make it so you have to have a published profile to post on the forum? That would, at least in theory, slow down the spambots we've been getting lately.

Some forums have a real-time chatbox, we may want to look into getting one. But it may not be as much help as it seems.

Do we have demographic data on the userbase? It might be that our new users are in the Post-MP3/Post-Forum mindset, and see forums as a waste of time, especially since services like Discord have risen in popularity; we may want to look into setting up an EF Official Discord and a way to integrate the EdenPoints system into the Discord; perhaps using a bot or setting up a points program on the Discord that can be cashed in for points on the website.

It's a shame, but forums are kind of going the way of the dodo at large. Several other communities I'm in have both forums and Discords, and the Discord sees much more activity.

Best practice would be to gate off the Discord to those who verify their forum account; there's ways to do that with role restriction, and would also help to make sure that community members also read the rules and code of conduct. The downside to having a Discord is that we would need active moderation; one or more people watching over the place to make sure everything's running smoothly and to shut down troublemakers when they pop up.

I'd like to see the forum thrive, but like BBSes, it's become a nostalgic niche for most. I'd bet about half of people in general in the 21-25 age bracket would struggle to know what a forum is at best.
