Although I'm Chinese (born in Hong Kong when it was under the British rule), I never bother to set foot in China, because I hate their stupid policies. A lot of the financially able women in China travel to Hong Kong and even the U.S. (mostly in Southern Cal) to give birth to their children, just because of that stupid 'one child' policy. With so many China nationals giving birth in Hong Kong, it's messing up Hong Kong's hospital system, creating chaos for the real Hong Kong citizens who need room in the hospitals to give birth.

What article?

Although I wouldn't want to live with the one-child policy, I understand why China has it. It's seriously too crowded there...really, I think most Americans don't understand the meaning of crowded until they spend a day in the city over there. So, trying to limit population growth is imperative.

That said, I'm a bit surprised the woman was forced to have an abortion. People do have more than one kid in China -- they have to pay a fee (maybe a few thousand, but I think it depends on the situation) and will not be able to get government jobs. Farmers are also allowed to have more than one kid. Two people who were only children can also have two kids. So, there are ways to have more than one...

Wow, that's terrible! While I understand that their country is overpopulated, heck it's getting to the point where most continents are at their limits to support their population, but that's just crazy.

Sure, limit how many children that people can have in general, but don't force women to get abortions. There are ways to get around this. Why not give the kid up for adoption? Why not move to the country where people can have more than one? That's just ridiculous.

If you google, you'll find plenty of articles covering that story. The latest was that China officials (the higher ups) have apologized to that poor woman after the news was breached, and suspended three people that were responsible.

Thats not uncommon in China, its been law for sometime now that they are only to have like 2 kids, they can have 1 boy and 1 girl or something like that in order to control the population. So people are just now starting to react to it? thats why they come to America so that they can get around that law.

I'm grateful to be American! I believe it's a woman's decision ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. NO MATTER WHAT SHE CHOOSES! She should be allowed to make the decision alone, without judgement from others. Nobody should be forced to keep or abort a child and nobody should ever have the right to tell a woman what she's to do with her body. HOW SICKENING!

It sucks that males are valued more than females in China. Nobody should be forced to do something against their will. That's awful.

October 21, 2011 a much more bone chilling news report.

[https://www.chinasmack.com/2012/stories/7-month-pregnant-woman-forced-into-labor-to-abort-unborn-baby.html|The recent news report.

This post might sound cold and harsh, but I've lived in Mainland rural China for the past ten years (and yes, away from the coast and the big cities). I'm Canadian born and raised, but made the decision to move here for countless reasons.

The one child policy is one of the only ways that the can keep the population growth under control. If a husband and wife choose to have a family, and they are both single children, they can have two kids. If a husband and wife are farmers in rural China, and the first child is a girl, they can have a second child. I know quit ea few people who are Han Chinese and have two kids (if your first child has a mole on their face, or not a high enough IQ you can apply to have a second child, sounds terrible, but the rules are becoming lax). If you are a minority; Tibetan, Mongolian or Manchu for example you can have as many kids as you like. The one child law is only for Han Chinese (it would be like the Canadian government saying this law only affects those of European decent in Canada).

As Nana said above, most people don't really understand how "big" the population is over here until they spend a day... think like this. You know Canada's Wonderland? Or think Disney World. Where you have all those rides and you have to wait in line for oodles of amounts of time and all the pushing and shoving, stepping on others toes, the bumps, the random grope here and there, the wondering where your friend is at, the pee dance while you wait. And all this on "school days" where these places have specials for schools.

Welcome to most of the big cities in China everyday.

Where Beijing yesterday had a hazardous level for air quality, yes millions still flock to cities like Beijing and Shanghai and Tianjin and Shenzhen for work. Where serial killers basically roam free in migrant cities like Baotou or Xi'an or Suzhou. (And this is simply because of the population and the government being lazy not doing their jobs.)

It is sickening that officials forced these abortions on these women, and this is where it might sound cold for me to say this, but I am glad things like this are coming to light. If you have read that first article I posted where it says no one know how many forced abortions happen each year, it's a State Secret, the more these things get reported, the less they will happen.

It is a terrible situation these women being forced to abort their children. Please understand that it is not all of China and I don't even think that the CCP head guys in Beijing like the fact that this goes on in the country. I think it has more to do with greedy lower level municipal officials and their lackies who want to move up in the politics of the CCP by obeying the law. I mean if Bo Xilai can do it and be set free after all he's done, why can't they?

But then again, if these women are being forced to have an abortion, I think the bigger question should be, why do most of the CCP officials who are Han Chinese have two kids? Because the 40,000rmb is nothing to them, where someone from a rural village might never see 40,000rmb in two or three life times.

There are some pretty serious things happening here at the moment, and quite a few of them nation-changing. The CCP is dying they just refuse to admit to it. The death grip style of leadership does not work, no matter how much they try to put the modern-way-of-life-in- China back (genie) into the bottle, it no longer fits. China has improved in leaps and bounds in the past ten years... the people here are still learning their footing.

This we found on China's twitter-type site before it was deleted:

"We can send a female taikonaut out into space, and we can also forcefully abort the fetus of a seven-months-pregnant woman from the countryside. The stark contrast between the fates of two women, 33-year-old Liu Yang and 22-year-old [sic] Feng Jianmei, is the clearest illustration of the torn state of this nation. Glory and dreams illuminate disgrace and despair, cutting-edge technology exists alongside the shameless trampling of the people. Rockets fly into the heavens while morals reach new lows, the nation rises while the people kneel in submission. This is how the best of times meets the worst of times.”

(The post was retweeted by @wenyunchao before its deletion.)

As I said, it sucks that this sort of thing is happening, but the people know what is happening, their eyes are opening and they are slowly taking off the blinders. With the giant population, it will take time, but it IS happening.

And to watch it happen?? Some scary shit is going on over here! But to see the history in the making??? I'd not give this up for all the free internet access I could get.

You be careful over there, and don't wonder around when you're in Hubei. Last I read from a Hong Kong magazine, hired-killers in Hong Kong were mostly from Hubei, after finishing their jobs they'll scurry back to where they came from. You just don't know what people you might run into, it's crazy over there!
