I think this is such a good thing that effects many people and several close friends. There is still a long way to go, but it is a start. Your thoughts?

Only 44 states left, but a victory for human rights nonetheless

Many more states will follow suit now that NY is on board with gay marriage.

I am glad that states are finally taking a stand. I think the wishy washy is killing our country, weather it be over this or other matters. Congrats to all of those who can now marry/divorce in NY if you so wish!!

It's nice to know that if someone proposes to me, I'll need a better excuse than, "It's illegal to marry me in New York," to back out of it.

You mean like, "If you get me a really big ring"?

No, more like, "That ring isn't big enough."

It's great, great news! Now another state allows gays to have to put up with the same thing that straight folks have had to put up with for centuries (he writes as his wife it looking over his shoulder and punching him furiously).

Ah, I see. If the ring-pop sized ring isn't big enough, then, I'm afraid I won't be proposing... shucks.

From a FB status:

it's now legal in NY for gays to marry. I'm not sure why straight people are against gay marriage. They're the ones having gay babies.

LOL! My Man has the same kind of comments as you do. He's kidding, but he always says, "Why shouldn't GLBT people get to be as miserable as straights?"

But, seriously, I am so glad. Illinois passed a Civil Union law a month or so ago.

Things are getting better in some spheres.

We need a rainbow smilie.

This is awesome but untill it hits every state every where a small wave works but i find it disturbing that our president who has been anti gaybefore his polls went down is now usen this as a propiganda speach to further his career the GBLT community are people not an agenda

I am so glad NY approved, and while I hope this will add to the legalization of gay marriage in other states...I'm still cautious. CA gave so many people so much hope, but then repealed the law! Currently it's scheduled for review, but...
I have a friend who got married in SF when Gavin was mayor. Now he's pretty cynical. I think some of that has rubbed off on me.

I really hope that NY's choice causes a landslide and the rest of the country can finally embrace acceptance!

I think Maryland will be the next state to allow same-sex marriage. The bill was passed by the Senate. While waiting for the House to vote on the bill, the bill was withdrawn. Some people were not confident that it would pass or that there would be a big protest.

Maryland will attempt to pass gay marriage next year. I have high hopes.
