How Long Do you Wait? (Before Marriage)

Contributor: lustylusty lustylusty
If you are in a relationship with somebody for a long, long time, how long would you wait (if you would wait at all) for them to ask you to marry them?

Well, my wife waited for about ten years before I asked her. We were in no rush and waited for the right timing and money.

Seriously, I never understood the need to rush right in, better to wait and make sure you can live together before tying the knot.

If you are still in the relationship after all that time, does it really matter?

When the time and money permit and after living together for a while. I'd never marry someone without living with them for a while.

the longer the better. I've known people that were together for 7,8,9,10 years even and then broke up...I bet they were glad they waited to get married or the break up would have been even more complicated.

Exactly what I was going to say. Long term relationships don't have to lead to marriage - only if that's what both partners want. And if one is ready and the other isn't, I still don't see the harm in staying together and waiting if you both really love each other and want to spend the rest of your lives together. In 30 years, will 1, 2, 3, or even 4 or 5 years of waiting really seem like that much? Doubtful.
