#EdenTasks - Proofreading Program

Near as I can tell I've been getting points for my submitted reviews. And I got that same "we're working on a fix" message to a support ticket I put in regarding missing notifications for comments on all my reviews, lol. I know everybody's been really busy over there, so I'm not sweating it too much. less

Perhaps instead of having each review rated for the editing, have an anonymous flag system; people who think the editor didn't perform well could just flag the review and those could be looked at by staff. It could be kind of like the forum flags, but instead could be something like, "I think this review is unedited, I think this editor did a poor job, I think this editor changed the tone of my review."

That would reduce the number of things staff has to look at, because all the well-reviewed ones would be unflagged, plus people wouldn't get publicly voted down/have their rank effected/whatnot for something that wasn't their fault.

I think you and I might be cut from the same cloth. I'm not a very patient person either but I try to be so as not to annoy everyone in the world with it. But I must check my email 115 times a day to see if my application is accepted... or if my reviews have posted.... or if there's another assignment being offered.

I am for that as it makes sense. The only down side I foresee to that, is that then there could (possibly) be a problem with people "down" flagging- in other words just flagging instead of down voting.

I'm sure it would be taken care of, but then again it might not be as much work for Eden to deal with "down" flaggers then down voters. less

Well, I figure that if someone is consistently downvoting things improperly, that would be dealt with the same way that it's dealt with on the forums.

Or did you mean flagging editors if the review stinks?

I figured that it would be easier to handle flaggers because that way people are only flagging if they think the editor did a poor job with editing, rather than if the review is terrible but the writing quality is fine; because they could make categories with appropriate flags, and "This review is the worst thing I've read since I read the inside of that bar bathroom wall in Boise" wouldn't be on there, but, "This editing is the worst editing I've read since I read the editor's comments of that bar bathroom wall in Boise." less

I hope so, I have noticed that as well. All the reviews are seeming to be "less useful" than they really are lately. Even extremely useful reviews have been useful at best. I would say give it until you hear that the fixes are live on the site before submitting anymore tickets. less

Yes that is why I came up as your editor. I submitted mine on Thanksgiving (25th) and still haven't hear from them yet.

But if I don't get chosen for it now, that is fine, as they are still working out a lot of kinks. I haven't checked it today yet, but here's to hoping! less

Oh, what she was saying was that she had been unaware until today that it was now her job as a mentor to also be an editor since the editor box is popping up on mentored reviews. Unfortunately, this new editing program was accidentally launched BEFORE she, or anyone else, knew about it. Therefore, at the time she approved her student's review, she did not know that she was also expected to edit it. Yet she was graded for editing (since the editing box popped up on the review before she even knew about the program).

That illustrates another consideration: Do all mentors now also have to be editors? It seems so since the editor box is showing up on mentored reviews now. Yet not every mentor has a desire to also be an editor, as Dwtim has explained.

Interestingly enough, the converse is not true, since not all editors are mentors. less

A: Eden Tasks is a new ‘Market Place’ that allows contributors to earn points through performing various tasks posted by EF.

Q: What is the ‘Review Proofreading’ task?

A: The ‘Review Proofreading’ task is the first of hopefully many exciting Eden Tasks. ‘Review Proofreading’ will allow contributors to edit and publish the reviews that until now, only the Review Team have been able to edit and publish.

The ‘Review Proofreading’ task is a privilege that will be available to the more experienced reviewers (for obvious reasons). We will start out with a small test group initially to see how the program works. We will then add people as needed to balance out the flow or reviews.

An exciting side effect of the ‘Review Proofreading’ task is now mentors will have more control over the reviews of their students. (to highlight, correct, or make notes)

Here is some additional info:
- requests will generally be approved within 48 hours, M-F
- not all requests will be approved, some will be declined. Every request is approved or declined by a real person on The Review Team.
- factors for approval include rank, writing ability, community participation, and so on. Editors must be well-rounded
- any editor found to be overzealous in their corrections will be removed from the program

My review of the book Opening Up did auto publish but I received no points or at least didn't get any notification of any points.
