If you use the dishwasher, use the top rack and don't use the dishwasher soap! No one ever remembers to warn about that, all you need is that hot water, but of course, you wash the toy with soap fist. You are putting it in the dishwasher to do the equivalent of boiling.
My usual, every time cleaning is with soap and water and then I mist them with Clorox Anywhere Spray -- it's already diluted for you! (I have trouble with straight bleach, so I can't do the diluting, don't ask.) I let this dry on them, or have it sit at least several minutes on them and then dry them manually if I don't have time to let them dry on their own.
