A question about silicone dildos...

I have been reading dildo reviews this morning, mostly vixskin ones. I noticed many reviewers suggesting that they can be washed in the dishwasher if you don't use any detergent. Does anyone know why detergent can't be used? My mom has a silicone muffin pan and we wash it in the dishwasher with detergent and it is fine.

I believe it's because the typical dishwashing detergents are too harsh and abrasive for the silicone of the toys - when you wash them by hand you use a mild, non-abrasive soap. For Vixskin in particular, but for all of my silicone toys, I would be afraid the detergent would damage the surface.

You can use detergent as far as I know. I use dish soap on mine. Note that dishwashing may not sterilize though.

I wouldn't want the possible remnants of leftover dish detergent going inside of my body!

This. I think that's the main concern.
