the big question: glass vs metal?

Contributor: Miss Jane Miss Jane
Which do you prefer - or can you decide - glass or metal dildos/buttplugs?

I have to say metal. However, I actually only have one glass toy - maybe it's just a dud? I very much love my steel and aluminum, though..

I thought it was a reasonable debate since they're both higher-end sex toy materials with similar qualities.

Glass is more likely to have the swirls and nubs I love, so I probably would give it the edge. For smooth toys, however, I prefer the weight of the metal, I think.

Aluminum, it's my #1 material for the year 08.

I prefer glass. I'm not super-huge on big toys that weigh several pounds, which is often the selling point of metal. I really love the texture and appearance of glass toys.

Metal, totally. The weight really does get me off. I also spent many years, before sex toys, sexualizing metal, so I think it had a clear advantage, well before I got my first metal dildo. Glass doesn't do much for me, but that might simply be the fact that I haven't found a shape that I like. I do have one glass toy that I really enjoy, but apart from that... research research research.

Two materials not mentioned here, but are somehow related: wood and ceramic.

I own one ceramic dildo, and I want one more. Just one. I just need one more hit....

And, I'm very curious about wood. While it lacks the weight I typically enjoy, I have always been highly attracted to wooden things, and that might make up the difference for me.

Still haven't tried metal, but I must get the Pure Wand ASAP. So I guess I have no choice but to go with glass, which is fine, because I LOVE glass. As DD pointed out, you can have more texture with glass, and texture is what I love.

Honestly, I like them both (glass & metal). For me it depends on the day and sometimes the visual appeal at the time. Glass usually has more texture but the metal has the weight I enjoy. Hoping to get NJoy's "Eleven" for the holiday. This should satisfy my weight craving forever! lol

God, that thing terrifies me. I don't want to lift anything heavier than 2 pounds with my hands, let alone my kegels!

The sexy, smooth metal does the work for me with just direction from me. My initial reaction to the "Eleven" was OMG, they are kidding? Now I can't wait to get it!

Minxy, Have you tried glass g-spot toys? I don't see any among your reviews? I'm wondering if its the heaviness of metal or something else that makes you prefer metal.

The only metal toys I have are njoy toys, and I REALLY love my pure wand.

Of the two, metal scares me less. I'm so afraid with a glass toy that it will shatter... I like the weight of the metal as well.

Glass toys are generally pyrex. Here's EF's definition:

Pyrex is a hard material with a high chemical resistance and mechanical strength. The boron in Pyrex reduces any stress caused to the material due to temperature changes. It is less dense than ordinary glass, making it much more resistant to shattering and breaking as well, if it were to break it would not shatter or splinter into tiny pieces but instead it would snap or break in large pieces. It retains temperature extremely well and requires only a little lube for a super-slippery effect.

Hope that helps alleviate your fears!

Only a bit . Large pieces of glass in me is not a pleasant thought . For the glass toys I have, they are solo only play, as I am so paranoid...

LOL! No that wouldn't be a pleasant thought but maybe one day you'll try a small one because I really did love the feeling the first time I did.

I don't think you have to worry about glass toys breaking inside you. How would that happen?

I've dropped my phallix toy on a tile floor and it didn't break.

Does anyone have both a glass g-spot toy and the Pure Wand? If so which do you prefer?

I've always been worried that if my husband is thrusting with it like he does the silicone ones, that it'll do something bad . Just a weird fear of mine. I do like them for solo, though...

Sammi -- that's impossible. It just would not happen. Have you felt glass toys? They are heavy and feel very sturdy. I've dropped mine several feet before and they have not so much as chipped. The only way you could actually break one would be to hit it over something or drop it from a high ledge onto a hard surface. There's no way thrusting would break glass. No way.

The only thing about having a partner thrust glass in to you that worries me is glass' rigidity. Most silicone toys have a little give, whereas if somebody thrusts the wrong way with a glass toy, they may poke you and cause some pain.

Now I'm with you on that one - but I make sure that only I do the hard thrusting.

I totally agree with BB & Sienna. Glass and metal don't have any give and have been uncomfortable for me when used by a partner with me and dam, they just don't seem to hit the right spots.
I prefer to "drive" when using glass and metal. Works for me...
