Do rubber toys break down in any way?

Do rubber toys break down in any way?

I've got a Basix Dong and when I bought it back in feb, it didn't irritate me at all. I was totally happy about that because I had bought toys before that slightly irritated me. I was a little allergic to the material, I think.

Now the last two times I've used it, it's kind of started to mildly irritate me. Is it possible for there to be some latent chemical inside the thing that started to seep out and annoy the hell out of my skin?

Guess this is prolly the best time to go to silicone.

Ok. Doesn't really explain what I was saying because I was asking, supposedly my toy is phthlate free.. and its causing mild irritation now. I did however find an article on another thread. Thanks for the response.
