I hear SILICONE is very safe, but then read where people say it is porous? What's the real scoop?

I though POROUS was not good, but silicone has a 10 safety rating, and some say it IS porous? HUH???? Is it, or is it not? What is the real scoop on SILICONE toys?

WHO made that kind of statement? There might be a chance for it to be porous, if it's not 100% medical grade silicone.

There are products made WITH silicone and polymers that are porous, like elastomer... but 100% silicone is nonporous

I third it, if that makes sense. 100% silicone is non-porous, I've read a lot about silicone lately. Apparently there are a lot of companies who slap the "silicone" logo on their product so people will buy it. In a lot of cases the product is a blend of silicone and other materials. I never buy a silicone sex toy unless it says it is 100% silicone.

One way to know if your "silicone" toy is really silicone is to smell it, if it has lots of strong odors then it either has become porous, or is not 100% silicone. True Silicone toys should never give off odors, the only time mine have is when I have used an extremely strong scented anti bacterial soap on them. Which I do try to avoid using anything strong scented!

This is the first I've heard of silicone being porous. Are you sure they were talking about pure silicone, or was it possibly TPR silicone or something like that?

Some sex toys might be marketed as silicone, but occasionally (if the manufacturer's been kind enough) you might find something like "10% silicone" somewhere on the box in small letters. This drives me nuts, and it's why I love EF and a few particular companies so much.

Like others have already said you were probably looking at a toy that is made out of TPR which contains silicone and is porous, but if you buy a 100% silicone toy it is non-porous.

What this smart user said

100% silicone is not porous at all, I'd probably message the user privately and let them know so that they can edit their review!

Um, I'm interested in knowing where you read that? 100% silicone is not porous. Silicone blends though are very porous, however.
