By swirls do you mean texture on the outside of the glass. With that dildo the "swirls" refers to the type of glass work, Lattachino. If you check my review I provide a link to a guy that is making a glass pipe using that technique.

As far as textures go, yes they can be very enjoyable. Some do fine them to be to much with hard material so it's a personal deal.
