I have no children but hopefully will someday, and I intend to breastfeed.
Thank you. Back atcha!

A pump doesn't stimulate you the same way, so often you can't continue to breastfeed doing it like this. You have to establish your milk (full up) before pumps are really an option. Often times you don't produce enough to actually pump enough to feed in a bottle, but yet if they feed off the breast you have plenty of milk. When you use a pump you can only extract so much, but usually it's harder work to do this. Especially if you are using a manual pump. Your breast are designed to make what you need for the feeding and fill back up for the next feeding.

Your nipples are not suppose to crack, bleed, or scab up. If they do, then you need to see a lactation consultant because there is a problem with the way you a feeding. Either improper latching, removal of the nipple, or something more serious.

I love that you are around to fill us with all of this knowledge!

I'm infertile but if I could have/wanted children I would breastfeed. I was breastfed as well. I think, overall, it's natural and beneficial to a baby.

It's my understanding that there are meds that are dangerous enough to warrant not breastfeeding, but maybe I'm wrong? I was told not to by the doctors that gave me the meds. I was also high risk for Post Partum Psychosis/Depression, so that played into the decision as well.

I would be very upset to learn that I was told I couldn't breastfeed by people who are supposed to know these things only to find out that the meds would have been safer than the formula...

I had two kids, TRIED to breast feed both, but my milk never fully came in for either......the colostrum is the most important part so they got that and thats all that matters i guess lol

I breastfed all my kids (I am right now as I type). I love it! It's easier for me and the bond is amazing

If I have children, I'll probably use a pump or something and then bottle feed it to the baby. At least, most of the time.

First off, +1 to everying P'Gell said.

Second, congrats on your decision to breastfeed! It really is the best you can do. If you have any trouble, many hospitals and birth centers have lactation consultants on hand to help you. I had to use one after my first son was born. They are fabulous.

I have two boys and breastfed them both. I don't remember when my first one stopped, but my second decided to wean himself at around 11 months.

I would add that in most states it is perfectly legal to breastfeed in public if you have to be out with baby. Don't let anyone tell you that you should be in a bathroom. But if you decide you want to get a pump for such occasions, make sure you get a high quality one. My midwife recommended Avent.

i have two children, one is 4 and one is 8 months, first son I breast fed until he was 2 years and 3 months, im planning on going until same time frame. I think its weird when people are "weirded" out by nursing too long. I mean yeah some is a bit old, but its their kids. I love the bonding and emotional feeling. Knowing that I am feeding my baby! Its an amazing feeling. I hear you are in fact able to loose weight faster, but dont let that be your main motivation. You need nutrient rich milk for the baby.

Obviously my main motivation is going to be my child, and not weight loss! This is the 2nd or 3rd post that someone has said this. I only put that as one of the pros I have heard of, not as my MAIN priority.

I think I'm starting to not like posting discussions on here, my posts have been getting misunderstood a lot. People need to start reading things more carefully and maybe try sounding a little less judgmental toward others!

Thanks to all the truly informative and completely positive posts
(P.S. Blame it on my hormones, or just call me a bitch. I really don't care.
