Help please! I have a huge ingrown hair bump :(

Contributor: LavenderSkies LavenderSkies
It's very painful and not to mention unsightly. It's not little, either. Can someone reccomend me a treatment for this, (perhaps a topical cream?) that I can use to get rid of it? Preferably something I can pick up at the store as opposed to online, because I just can't wait that long for shipping and whatnot! Home remedies? Creams? Anything! Thank you in advance!!!

A triple antibiotic ointment like Neosporin (available at any drugstore and probably most grocery stores).

If you decide to 'extricate' the hair, you can try using sharp tweezers, but be sure to sterilize them first! Just be sure to soften the skin first; it's best to do this when you are fresh out of the shower, then wash the area again when you are done.

You can also try an acne medication containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

If it won't pop when squeezed, then it may have to wait a couple of days. I would use a topical cream like proactive to reduce the size. The hair will eventually have to be pulled out. When it gets a head on it and can be popped, (use a hot rag to help the pores open) that is the path the hair will come out. Like eden C. said, use sharp fine tip tweeezers, and wash afterwards. I stopped shaving some areas, and now I use a clipper to get real close. Some areas are more prone to hair bumps than others.

Ugh, I HATE when that happens. Two tips for you, one, once you pop it, even if you don't get the hair out, let it rest for a day, this gives the hair time to migrate to the surface and be easier to pick out. Secondly, after messing with it as many times as it takes, put a glob of aloe over it. So far I've avoided scarring with this method But please do sterilize anything you use with it. If you can't get under the hair, a sewing needle works well. Good luck!

After you get rid of this ingrown hair, I used coochy shave spray for after shaving it works great and helps prevent bumps.

I find that the only thing that works is to pull out the hair and then leave it alone. Pull out the hair and then DO NOT TOUCH THE AREA UNTIL IT HAS HEALED FULLY!

Your first instinct when you notice an ingrown hair is to attack it with tweezers first. DON'T! This introduces bacteria from your skin, nails, and hair follicles to go into the wound. Your best bet is to clean the area well with soap and water, then cover it with a warm as you can stand compress. This will relax the pores and open them up, which will release the hair a bit more. Keep doing this until you are able to pull to hair out with ease. Make sure you get as close to the surface as possible so that you may get it without breaking the hair follicle. If this happens you will have to wait until it heals to try again. After it has healed, there may be a white bulb left in the pore. It can simply be squeezed out. Use neosporin as often as you see fit, seeing as it does help with the healing.

Remove the hair then clean with peroxide. Do not touch it after and allow it to get air. It should heal up in a day or so.
