Irritation and ingrown hairs after shaving...

Contributor: Derpina Derpina
Anyone have any tips or products that prevent ingrown hairs and reduce skin irritation after shaving the pubic area? I always have those problems after shaving and I don't know how to fix it.

I'd recommend not shaving down there too frequently—it can cause yeast infections and other not-so-fun things. That said, you could try switching razor types or shaving cream brands and see what that does.

Wait 3 to 4 days, then gently exfoliate the shaved area with a facial size loofah pad while you're in the shower or bath.

I get Brazilian waxes, but my girl was talking to me about shaving down there. There are products that you apply daily for a few days before and then daily after that supposedly prevent ingrowns. No clue if they work and can't remember what they are (I think it was "bump" or something with bump in it), but if you google, you might be able to find them!

I just end up not shaving--have you tried wax if that's an option?

Yes! I used to always get razor burn around my bikini line, and I've found that Sexual Health Enthusiasts' Aftershave works really well. Like INSANELY well--I don't use many beauty products, and would normally hesitate to endorse them, but this works. It doesn't totally get rid of razor burn, at least for me, but it cuts it by probably 90%. Plus, it's mostly body-safe. It's a little expensive, but if you can use EF points or do a buyout I would definitely encourage you to.

One thing I've heard of (and tried) that seems to work: After shaving, apply a light layer of unscented deodorant along your bikini zone. (I use Dove, since it's pretty gentle and LOADED with moisturizers.)

I just wouldn't recommend it if there is a chance your partner may go down on you afterwards. My husband did it once and said all he could taste was deodorant.

I spoke with my esthetician and she said the company who makes the products that she was recommending is called GiGi. I guess they make a couple of different products for ingrowns. I don't have any personal experience with the products so I can't recommend them or not. Just thought I'd let ya know
