Vaginal Dryness

Contributor: ToyGurl ToyGurl
I am experiencing some vaginal dryness at age 21. Can someone explain why this may be happening. I talked to my doctor about it and he explained it so quickly that I honestly don't remember what the hell he said. It's getting so annoying and I want to prevent it from continuing.

Does the word "PUSSY" offend you, even in the slightest, when used in the text of a forum question?
In a question I submitted on the same day as this question, I had written the word pussy into the question, then replaced it with the word vagina. I.

Honestly? I would have asked the doctor to repeat himself, or asked him to write it down. You can always call the office and ask him to remind you what he said. That or I would look into something like the Vulva Balm maybe, unless you're planning to use it all the time and use condoms all the time, since it's an oil base and might cause a condom to break.

I would call the doctor's office back and have them tell you what they said and what it means in terms that you can understand and have them tell you what options available so you can do something about it.

I definitely should call him back. I guess I was looking for other females who may/may not have the same problem. It's just such a pain and I go to a women's hospital so it's extremely hard to see a doctor. I LOVE my OB/GYN, even though we have issues time to time, I love him. I don't want to switch. But it's so hard to get ahold of him.

Thanks JennyKent!

It's just so random. I used to be the kind who was wet for no reason! Now I'm dry as a desert!

Have you been taking any type of medication lately? Different types of medication such as anti-estrogen medications (used to treat either uterine fibroids or endometriosis), allergy and cold medications, and certain types of antidepressants can all cause vaginal dryness. Other causes for vaginal dryness include douching and too little foreplay. There is also an autoimmune disorder called Sjögren's Syndrome that attacks moisture-producing cells in the body (though I doubt this is your issue since other causes are much more common!). Other causes include breastfeeding (which lowers estrogen) or chemotherapy treatments (which are also not likely to be a factor for you, from what I know about you based upon your posts in the forum!).

As long as the causes for the vaginal dryness are not any of the above, it could be simply due to stress. I think our bodies go through stages. I have had no problem producing lubrication throughout my lifetime, but I occasionally have some dry spells! I think stress and worry is often the main cause of it. Sometimes we are just mentally "not there" at the moment, and that's okay. Mental arousal is often achieved before physical arousal. Perhaps try treating yourself to some relaxing activities (a massage perhaps) and just relaxing to enjoy a smutty read without placing any pressure on yourself to produce a physical response.
