Vaginal Dryness

Contributor: NarcissisticLust NarcissisticLust
It happens to the best of us, from time to time the annoying dry. Not dryness during sex, just generally dry. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good product to help vaginal dryness? Thanks so much

Vaginal estrogen creams help with that but you need a prescription. I think that's typically given to post-menopausal women. You could try eating foods with phytoestrogens like soy products, flax seeds and flax seed oil. I drink a revivalsoy.com shake every day.

There are also lubes sold for vaginal lubrication (not the same as lubes sold for sex.) I think they're also called vaginal moisturizers.

I just read an article on this in a magazine this afternoon. The article was on managing hormonal ups and downs. Part of the article touched on this. Keep in mind that it was referring to possible painful sex, but I think the recommendations are worth looking at.

When Estrogen levels drop, vaginal walls can thin and become inflamed and dry, making sex painful.

One solution is (as stated in the above comment) lubrication. Look for a non-bacteriostatic gel (it will state that on the container somewhere if it is an ingredient). Astroglide is a product you might want to look into. It is a moistrizes as well as being a lubricant. This is a link to a PDF explaining the benefits of Astroglide

The other solution is by talking to your doctor about a topical estrogen which includes a cream, ring, or suppository that you place in the vagina. This option has fewer side effects than an estrogen pill or patch. Those are the third options, the pill or patch.

My wife is perimenopausal and uses a vaginal estrogen cream. There's definitely an art to its use. I think she uses it on days 5-17 and it has helped even out the frequency and intensity of her periods. For me it's a mixed blessing - I pretty much have to avoid oral sex when she's on the stuff. Estrogen is a very bad idea for men! -but that's manageable.

My wife hasn't really had a problem with dryness - but we use lubrication at least 95% of the time. The lube helps keep everything running smooth with our toys. My suggestion is to find a couple lubes that you like and use them all the time - or at least as needed.
