What Do You Consider "Inexpensive"?

Contributor: LikeSunshineDust LikeSunshineDust
Just out of curiosity, what do you personally consider to be "inexpensive" when it comes to sex toys? Now I know this can vary depending on the type of product (an inexpensive vibrator is not the same price as an inexpensive bottle or lube) but I would like to get a general idea of everyone's opinions as I continue to add products to my store, Frugal Fantasys.

Currently, I'm using a guideline of $30-$40 or less.

Also, to specify: <$30 includes everything below it in price range

It depends on what it is! Unfortunately some things can't be had cheaply - a good harness for one. But on the whole, you can get a great vibrator, dildo, butt plug, piece of lingerie, prostate massager, masturbation sleeve or lube for less than $40 in my opinion. Some things require more spending, unfortunately.

Most of the time, you get what you pay for and I am willing to pay $50 or more for good orgasms

This, very much so.

I'm willing to pay more for items that I know I won't have to replace pretty much ever, but there are so many things that you can get for under $40 that are pretty darn great, as well as being inexpensive.

I'm with you here. I wasted a lot of money on cheap things that didn't work or broke in less than a year. That's not to say you can't have expensive vibrators that work like crap or cheap ones that work great. I just find I'm more inclined to pay a little more for better products and hopefully better orgasms!

I went with $50.00 but I have to say that's on the low end. Quality just costs more.

I'm with ya on that. For a good quality piece of good material... Less that $50 is good.

Here! Here! I agree. We have paid more than $200 for a toy. We are convinced that toys made of body safe materials and bring great orgasms, are worth their weight in gold!

I agree, it depends on what it is. I think there's a difference between inexpensive and cheap, too.

I consider under $20 inexpensive. Obviously it depends on the type of toy- $40 would be a pretty expensive bullet vibe, for example, but a fairly cheap rabbit.

I voted for under 30 since that what I consider inexpensive, but in terms of your personal store I think 40 and under is just fine. Although for some products it better to think of inexpensive in terms of how it compares to the typical price of the product. Something like a big piece of good sex furniture could be a 100+ and still be inexpensive for what you get.

Inexpensive should really be looked at in terms of value. A $20 TPR dildo doesn't cost much, but when you factor in replacing it every year it doesn't take long to exceed the cost of a nice silicone toy that will last you forever. If you know you'll like and use a toy it's a better value to spend that $40 once rather than spend the $20 over and over (and possibly have to add condoms on top of that).

Thanks everyone, for your input. I definitely try to factor in value and try to show something for most budgets.

Since I'm a broke college student—less than 20, preferably less than 10 but that's asking alot.

For things like lingerie, sensual body products, simple toys...I consider $20 or so inexpensive (at my stage in life/sex toy experience). For cuffs, other bondage gear, good G-spot vibes and of course sex furniture: the sky's the limit.

So I fall somewhere between. For instance, the Liberator Wedge vs Heart Wedge; I'm sized so that the Heart Wedge works great for me. It's cheaper than the Wedge so I consider it frugal .

And buying lubes in "bulk."

For me, $30 is pretty dirt cheap. I prefer toys $80 and up.

I agree with Shellz. $30 is pretty damn cheap. Anything under $50 I don't even think about. As in I'll just buy it without really even considering the cost. Toys between $50 and a hundred I like to make sure they are going to at least be ones I think I'll enjoy before buying and over $100 I take some care in those.

Kind of in between. For some reason my brain thinks anything under about $25.00 to be inexpensive. It is also as you state product dependent. A 30.00 vibrator is likely inexpensive, but a bottle of lube that is 25.00 is.

It depends on the toy.

I mean Ella to me is inexpensive when compared to othe silicone toys. I make my judgment by comparing to similar products and then decide what is inexpensive.

It all depends. I have various "inexpensive" ranges depending on the toy, quality, the amount of use we would get out of it & how long it should last.

This is one of those situations where quality far out ranks quantity, at least for me! I'd rather have a few really good, and maybe more pricey, toys that will last than many less expensive toys that I have to replace more often and don't give me the best results.

I'd say around the $30 range, but it really depends on exactly what the product is. I'm drawn to silicone more than anything else, and those toys tend to get expensive.

I generally look at rabbits, so I think less than $40 is pretty dirt cheap. I wouldn't really look at one that cheap, because IME they don't last long enough to make them worthwhile.

Now that I have been here for awhile, gained quite a collection and become a toy snob, anything under $100 to me isn't expensive.

With most toys, the better ones tend to cost more.

I think that for the sake of your store, choosing toys that are good value and affordable for a few different kinds of toys would be wise. As has already been stated, a good deal on a butt plug is not the same price as a good deal on a rabbit vibe.

My girlfriend and I recently bought a bondage kit for $10 and it is amazing. It was what I would consider cheap and we have gotten our money's worth easily.
