WOW...you persisted, but obviously a good think for you and your lucky hubby. As for "stretching out"....that is a joke. I have been having regular toy, finger and penis anal play for over three decades now, first with a couple boyfriends, and then with my hubby for over 30 years and I am STILL "tight as a tick" back there. I answered "tried but didn't like it," which is ~mostly true. Before I came out, I was having sex exclusively with cis-het dudes who were just generally horrible at everything. We would try anal and it was a fucking nightmare for me. However, I'm really interested in anal play now and would be super willing to try again! I really think my poor experience was due in large part to being with inexperienced and impatient partners, to not knowing my own limits, and just general boredom with cis straight guys.

Start with anal play rather than anal sex. Use fingers or toys to see how and if you like stimulation back there. If you do, see how it develops, but don't rush it, and don't let your partner push you or you push your partner much beyond your/their comfort zone. If you're worried about it you tense up and it doesn't feel good.

I am indifferent about it because my partner loves it and I love watching him feel pleasure... It really doesn't feel good or bad for me so I incorporate this act every once in a while.

I think it really depends on the individual! Don't pressure yourself into it if it doesn't seem appealing. If it does though, make sure you're prepared - take time with foreplay and use lots of lube!
