I bought a couple of Grow-a-peckers for one of my gay friends for his surprise party. Because they were cute, I decided to get one for myself. I'm a bit of a prankster so I was looking forward to what laughs the grow-a-pecker could give me.

The material of grow-a-pecker is exactly like a kid's "grow a pet." When I first took the pecker out of the package, it looks really unassuming. It's hard, akin to a pencil eraser. The instructions suggest using warm water to soak your pecker in overnight. I'm guessing the warmer water allows whatever reactions in it to occur quicker (Putting it in cold water does stunt its growth.) Make sure you have a big enough container so your pecker can grow.

The next day I went to look at my grow-a-pecker, and I was a little disappointed. Maybe I got a bad one because mine was no where near the 12-hour mark the packaging claims. It was closer to the 8-hour mark than anything. Because of this, I suggest anyone purchasing a grow-a-pecker to keep that part of the packaging to see if theirs grows better than mine did.

Regardless, the grow-a-pecker grew eventually. I kept mine in a Tupperware for a couple of days. Curious, I touched it a few times during its growth period (maybe touching it stunted it?). It takes on a slimy quality. It's firmer than you would think and has heft since it's filling with water.

Overall, what do you expect for 3 bucks? It's quirky and bound to give laughs. It's good as a bag stuffer at a risque party. You can regrow the grow-a-pecker if you let it dry out, but it's not as dramatic in growth as the first time. Personally, I would recommend a grow a dinosaur or another child-based grow toy. They are made with better quality.

The Grow-a-pecker is a true gag gift. It can be reused, but the novelty is there only once. I still have mine sealed up in a baggie so I decided to try it again. It grows but not as much as it used to.

It's worth the price for a gag. Other than that, get a better grow toy.
