A silicone finger for your P-spot

The P-Wand would make a good entry-level toy for someone who is curious about prostate play. Its beginner-friendly size, shape, and flexibility make it a good option for someone who has tried and enjoyed a finger, and would like to try a toy next. As a silicone toy, the P-Wand is easy to clean and maintain, and is well suited for new toy users who don't want a hassle in maintaining their new pleasure.

Use

The P-Wand is a prostate massager similar in design to a non-vibrating version of the Rude Boy. To use the P-Wand the user inserts the longer end of the toy with the tip pointing towards his prostate (towards the bellybutton). The wand can then be manipulated manually or can be rocked on while sitting down on it. Due to the small size of the base, it should fit between most users' butt cheeks well and be comfortable to use while sitting. However, the base material is very flexible for silicone, so the user should be careful not to insert the toy past the 90 degree angle at the base, lest the rest of the toy slip in. Since the shaft is constant in thickness, there is not an area for the sphincter to "hold on to" so the toy will not be retained hands-free; as such, it's not ideal for use during intercourse. The P-Wand is a better suited for hands-on use during masturbation or for a prostate massage during oral sex.

Material / Texture

The P-Wand is another example of Doc Johnson's recent foray into manufacturing silicone toys. A huge improvement over the PVC, rubber, and Sil-A-Gel products that Doc Johnson is better know for, the P-Wand's silicone construction is non-porous, sterilizable, and chemically stable. The material does not have a discernible taste and has only a very slight sweet smell if you sniff it directly. This is not one of those toys that you can smell from the next room over.

Unlike the usual hard silicone found in many toys, the material used in the P-Wand is fairly soft and flexible, which is advantageous for anal play, especially if one of the participant is new to the game. The texture is a matte finish, which helps retain lubes without them beading up.
    • Flexible
    • Light odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The design of the P-Wand is a silicone, non-vibrating version of the Men's pleasure wand. The toy overall is fairly small with a shaft of just 5" long and 1" in diameter. This makes for a toy that can be used by most without too much warm-up, especially since the end of the shaft is even smaller in diameter (about the width of my index finger). The angled portion of the shaft does well to massage the prostate, however the overall length means that if you insert the wand all the way to the base, the angled tip passes the prostate. As a result, the P-Wand provides the best prostate stimulation if you don't insert it more than halfway.

Being fairly small in overall size, the P-Wand is fairly travel-sized. Also, since it lack a head, the wand doesn't scream sex toy. However, discretion points may be lost since "Doc Johnson" is stamped into the base of the toy. If someone were to suspect the P-Wand, you would have a hard time convincing him/her that it's not a sex toy, as it really doesn't look like any other type of consumer product.

Performance

The P-Wand target the prostate well provided that you don't insert it more than halfway. The soft and flexible silicone makes it comfortable for beginner users who may still be discovering all right angles for prostate fun. However, the flexible silicone also makes insertion a little bit tricky and more importantly, makes it difficult to use the wand to apply direct pressure to the prostate. With the toy inserted to the base, I was unable to manipulate the base in any manner that stimulated my prostate, due to the flexibility of the material.

With the toy inserted all the way to the base, I tried sitting on it to rock back and forth, hoping that the motion would be a bit more stimulating. Unfortunately, it has no effect on my prostate, other than the fact that the nub on the base is substantial enough to press uncomfortably on my perineum (the "taint").

Though Doc Johnson is now offering a premium silicone material, it would seem that their fit and finish still isn't up to the quality of longer-established silicone toy manufacturers. The entire length of the P-Wand has a substantial unfinished seam that was noticeable during use. At first the seam just made it uncomfortable to rotate the toy while inserted; however, after about 10 minutes of play, my ass became quite unhappy with thrusting and I had to switch to just wiggling the wand to provide stimulation. Sensitivities likely vary, but I have a hard time with unfinished seams and find it difficult to play with toys that have substantial seams. Additionally, though the P-Wand lubes up well, the texture feels rough, and I found that I was reapplying lube about twice as often as normal to keep the toy comfortable. This may have been related to the seam, and may vary by user, but it is a factor to keep in mind.
    • Too flexible
    • Unfinished seams

Care and Maintenance

As a pure-silicone toy, the P-Wand is very easy to care for. In fact, on the packaging, the first sentence on the back recommends cleaning on the top rack of the dishwasher. Being silicone, it can also be sterilized by boiling in a pot of water or dipping in a 10% bleach solution. For everyday cleanup (without sterilization) soap and hot water works well. Also, pure silicone means that is chemically stable and safe to store with most other toys, except silicone-containing elastomers (such as silicone-TPR or Sil-A-Gel). For non-compatible toys, I would recommend storing one of the two in a plastic bag to prevent contact melting or discoloration, just in case. The final consideration due to the material is that you should avoid silicone lubricants. I prefer water-based, but oil-based is also compatible, just as long as aren't planning to use latex later in the same play session.
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

The toy is packaged in a clear plastic clamshell with a paper liner that features the product name and information. The clamshell is of a thicker plastic, and would be suitable for storage. With the exception of key words like "prostate" and "orgasm" the P-Wand's packaging is discreet, without any nude models or suggestive imagery. If you were to be giving someone a prostate massager, there would be nothing objectionable about the P-Wand's packaging. An advantage is that paper liner in the package can be removed, making the casing somewhat more discreet, with only the "Doc Johnson Sex Toys" logo embossed on the back of the package as an identifier.

The packaging does not include any instructions for use, aside from cleaning, which is unfortunate since this toy is a great size for anal beginners and those who may otherwise be less experienced in prostate play (such partners).
    • Discreet looking packaging
