Appearances aren't Everything

5-star design with good diameter and length but oversight into maintaining cleanliness of product makes this one not worth getting. Caveat emptor!
Published:
Pros
Tapered end makes insertion easy. Very smooth when used with lube. Length and size not overwhelming.
Cons
Separate pieces that make cleaning a nightmare. Once water gets in-between there is no getting out.

My girlfriend and I like a little anal play every now-and-then, and after thoroughly enjoying the Tush Trainer Beginner|Tush trainer intermediate and Spectra gel Smooth Tool|Spectra gel smooth tool we decided to venture a little further and try a larger plug. The Crystal Jelly|Crystal jellies® butt plug is from Doc Johnson just like the Spectra gel Smooth Tool, so we thought we knew what type of quality to expect.

The product arrived in a nice package that was easy to open to get to the goodies inside. The item looked just like it does on the site, so at least there were no initial disappointments. The toy has a nice pinkish color swirled in with white to give it a "marble-esque" appearance. The toy is actually made up of two parts: the first is a clear outer layer in the shape of the plug itself. The second layer is the actual rubber that looks as if it was poured into the first layer and allowed to harden. Imagine a normal jelly plug with a clear plastic cover surrounding the whole thing if you will.

The insertable length is actually 4.5in instead of the 5 listed on the website, but the circumference and diameter are spot on. She enjoyed it and told me that the size and length were good. It was a little large at the largest part, so it shouldn't be for beginners. The texture is nice when combined with lube and slides very nicely and the tapered end makes insertion gentle. Once in it stays in place very well.

The main drawback for this toy is that it is two separate parts. For an anal toy were cleanliness is of paramount importance after use so as not to cause possible health issues; having a cavity where moisture and possible bacteria to grow is not nice. I made the mistake of washing this in the bathroom sink after use only to discover water had found its way between to the two pieces. You can squeeze and pull the pieces as much as you want but you will never remove all the moisture. I sent the toy back for a replacement since I thought that surely it must have been a defect that the inner part separates from the outer half exposing an entrance for water. A second one arrived that I still have and it is the exact same way. A clear plastic mold into which they poured the jelly material. This would have been a 5-star product had it not been for this issue of cleaning the toy.
Experience
If you get this toy make sure you wash by hand and be very careful not to get the bottom wet or water/soap will get between the two pieces and you will never be able to dry it out unless you cut the plastic covering off. Then this leaves the porous jelly plug, which should not to be used anally.

Hmph! I agree, that is a very not-cool design.

I agree, the design is bad. But, it's a jelly toy anyway (the entire thing, even if the outer layer looks different), which harbors bacteria even with cleaning. Cover with a condom for use or get a silicone plug.

I agree as well. Totally bad design. I would suggest going with a 100% silicone plug. That way you could boil it for 3 minutes to sterilize it and you both could use it. Thanks for the review! =)

Yuck, this toy sounds awful! A porous material that can't be sterilized is one of the worst things I could possibly think to put in my ass.

I'd highly recommend getting a good quality silicone plug; all of my plugs that I currently own are silicone and I've always been happier for it. Tantus is a good company that specializes in 100% silicone products; their cheaper models cost slightly more than this one, but they're TOTALLY worth it!

Thanks for the review and sorry about your bad experience with this toy.
