Use

The Screw, by Whipspider Rubberworks, is a moderately-sized, somewhat squishy silicone anal plug with a twist. Literally. Its spiral (threaded) shape actually allows the user to screw it into himself/herself. It was my one of my very first silicone toys: I bought it five years ago - and I still use it today!

In those days, I was an anal toys beginner, and The Screw was the biggest toy (in diameter) I'd attempted up to that point. Today, I'm an intermediate player. These days, I only use The Screw when I'd like to insert a plug, but I'm not feeling up to the Tantus Ryder, or to one of my other larger plugs. But The Screw still works just as well now as it did when I first got it, and it shows no signs of wear, even after all this time.

It's a fairly obvious sex toy to those "in the know", but it's not very big. I've tossed this into my suitcase for many car trips out of town.

Material / Texture

The surface is velvety smooth. The texture is best described as "squishy" - but with enough firmness to enable easy penetration. It's similar in firmness to a mostly-erect penis (it's completely non-realistic in every other way).

It was completely odorless when I received it. During the course of play, a few times it HAS picked up some "personal" odors, but I've found that applying a paste of baking soda and water, leaving it for a few minutes, and then rinsing it thoroughly takes care of them nicely.

Being silicone, The Screw is good for temperature play. You can warm it up by soaking it in hot water for a few minutes, or cool it down by soaking it in cold.

Design / Shape / Size

The Screw - In Hand

I love the swirled shape of this toy. However, I've never been crazy about the black/blue color (it's also available in blue/lavender and black/white). To me, the black and blue somehow makes the toy look like it's dirty. But maybe that's just me.

The Screw - Length

The overall length is about 4 1/4", which includes 2 5/8" of insertable length.

The Screw - Diameter

The first swirl is about 7/8" in diameter - roughly the same width as a thumb. The tip is nicely rounded so that it feels comfortable when inserted (assuming everything's properly lubricated and relaxed). The second swirl is about 1 1/8" in diameter, and the toy maxes out with the third swirl at 1 3/8". Please note that these toys are hand-made (in Maine, USA), so there may be some variation from toy to toy. The "official" maximum diameter listed on the product page is 1 1/2".

The neck measures in at 3/4" long and 7/8" in diameter. The substantial difference between the body and neck diameters means that, once inserted, this plug stays put.

The Screw - Base Width

The base is a generous 3" wide, making it anal safe. It's also nicely rounded, making it comfortable to wear for longer periods of time.

The Screw, Ryder, Severin Medium

In comparison to my other silicone plugs, The Screw is fairly small. I'd say it's on the large end of the beginner range, or at the small end of intermediate.

Performance

I remember when I first got The Screw, I couldn't wait to see if I could literally screw it into myself. I applied some water-based lube (KY was the only lube I knew then) to myself and to the toy, pressed the tip firmly against myself, and rotated the toy's base clockwise while maintaining firm pressure. I was impressed to find that it started going in right away! In fact, I was able to insert it fully - to screw it all the way in - the very first time (your experience may vary). I then tried to "unscrew" the toy, but found that wasn't going to happen. So I just pulled it out. And pushed it back in, this time enjoying the "ripple" effect of the swirled texture.

I didn't know much about anal play, so I simply inserted/removed it a few more times before setting it aside and indulging in some masturbation. Since then, I've learned that it's pleasurable to leave a plug in place during masturbation or sex. I've used The Screw for that MANY times over the last five years, as well as for warmup before using larger anal toys. I'm pretty sure that the very first time my wife pegged me, I used The Screw for warmup.

It works well for all these uses. I don't find it hits my P-spot, however, nor is it big enough to use, on its own, as a warmup for pegging with our larger dildos. When I first became interested in wearing a plug for an extended period, the first toy I tried was The Screw. Surprisingly, I found it becomes a little uncomfortable after 15 minutes or so, perhaps because of its pointed tip. So, I found it wasn't any good for extended wear. But what The Screw does, it does well.

Care and Maintenance

The Screw is made of silicone, which rates a perfect 10 out of 10 on Eden's Material Safety scale. It's non-porous, so you don't need to use a condom with it, even if you're going to share it. You can wash it with soap and water; you can fully sanitize it by boiling it for 3 minutes - or even by running it through your dishwasher on the top rack.

You should use only water-based lubricants with silicone toys. DO NOT USE SILICONE-BASED LUBES WITH THIS TOY, or you may damage it.

Similarly, be sure to store it away from other silicone toys, because they might bond together. Generally, though, The Screw is easy to store. It's not very big, so it won't take up a lot of space in your toy box/cabinet/drawer/whatever. Mine sits on a shelf in my toy cabinet, with my other anal toys.

Like a lot of other silicone toys, it can be a bit of a lint magnet. A quick rinse before play will take care of that.

Packaging

This toy came in a simple zip-lock style plastic bag. Included with the toy was a simple paper card with care instructions and a short blurb about Whipspider Rubberworks. The bag would work fine for storage; I re-used it elsewhere and recycled the card.

Personal comments

If you're fairly new to anal play, or if you just enjoy your toys on the smaller side, I heartily recommend that you go Screw yourself - seriously, you won't regret it!
