Use

The Risque is a anal probe/butt plug by California Exotics. It is deigned for safe anal play. The flared base allows for the toy to be fully inserted without worry of it getting lost. It is also a plug that has a motor and can offer vibrations, which can appeal for those who want to experience both a full sensation and vibrations. The Risque is not the best option if you're looking for something to wear for long periods of time, given its shape. Also, it is waterproof, so it can be safely whisked into the shower for utmost discretion.

The Risque is more likely intended for advanced and intermediate users. Beginners may wish to look at thinner/smaller plugs before giving this a try. The Risque is discreet in terms of sound, so it's an option for those who live with others. This is by no means a "grab and go," toy for most; the majority of users will need a warm up before safely using this toy. The Risque, if it is a good size for you, can be used and enjoyed regardless of gender. It can stimulate both the P and G-spot. It can be used vaginally if desired. The material also allows it to be sterilized, which is always a plus.

Material / Texture

The Risque is made out of silicone. Silicone is a very body safe material, and a great choice for those who have allergies to other materials. It also offers ways to safely clean and sterilize the toy. Being silicone, there is drag with the toy, but this can be alleviated with some water based lubricant. In general, there is no such thing as too much lubricant when using anal toys. The Risque is not realistic, nor does it resemble a penis.

The toy is not solidly silicone. Other than the motor, you can feel the hollowness in the toy if you squeeze the larger bulge and the junction between the bulges. It can be squished easily enough. The top bulge is more bendable then the second bulge, but it offers enough resistance to keep insertion from being a pain.

The toy is smooth; the shape of the toy offers a change in sensation during insertion. There are two elongated bulges. The tip is much smaller than the second bulge. After the second bulge, there is a small neck and then a curved base. This change in width is better suited to more experienced users.

There is a seam bisecting the toy that can be felt by hands but not during use. It is smoothed off well. The base of the toy is covered with plastic. There is no overt odor to the Risque.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The measurements on the Risque are accurate to the measurements on the product page. Each bulge has a different width, but the larger one has a circumference of 5 inches. This is solidly in the experienced player's realm. The length of the Risque is not too long or short, but it's long for those who prefer a more shallow penetration. The shape helps prepare the user for the larger bulge, but not enough to forgo a warm up.

The Risque is not curved, so it won't give direct G or P-spot stimulation like other toys would. It still stimulates these zones, though, especially with the vibrations it offers.

It is obvious that the Risque is a sex toy. It should be wrapped up in a lint free cloth or pouch to keep it from wandering eyes. If traveling, it's best to wrap the toy so nothing pierces or damages it. Also, remove the batteries before to travel to prevent the Risque from turning on and causing an interesting scene. In terms of noise, the Risque is not that noisy. It is more silent when inserted in the body. Inserted, it is 1-2 Bees. When outside the body, it approaches 3 Bees on its higher settings.

Performance

The Risque is could be tweaked a bit to improve performance. The curved base prevents it from being used for long term play or being able to sit comfortably. It can be worn during intercourse, but might be a bit uncomfortable if the wearer is pressed on the bed. The flared base will keep the toy in an O-ring harness, but the curved base may cause discomfort for the wearer. However, this would also be dependent on the harness.

The neck of the toy could be a bit longer. It doesn't slip out easily, but a longer neck would make it more reliable in this way. The material allows it to be used since it can be sterilized with a bleach solution. The Risque can be used for vaginal penetration. The changes in width provides stimulation, especially for the shallower end of the vagina.

The toy is marketed as waterproof and, even though it doesn't look the most convincing, it does hold up. When completely submerged in the sink and turned on, the Risque keeps water out and lets you enjoy the toy in a variety of ways.

The Risque takes 2 AAA batteries to run. If you look at the base, you'll see that sliding the cover one way opens the toy and the other way closes it (similar to a TV remote). This is how to get to and change the batteries. There are 10 vibration patterns. They are as follows:

1. Low Standard Vibration
2. Medium Standard Vibration
3. High Standard Vibration
4. Slow, longer Pulses
5. Faster, shorter Pulses
6. Even faster pulses and then steady vibration, repeat
7. Short, fast pulses, then longer pulses, repeat
8. Rising roller coaster
9. Decreasing pulses
10.Long pulses, then short pulses

Some patterns are more buzzy, others are more rumbly. They travel well. The stronger patterns are a high 3 Vrooms to low 4 Vrooms. The intensity averages around a medium 3 Vrooms among the patterns.
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Multiple settings

Care and Maintenance

Caring for the Risque is simple. Soap and water, toy cleaner, or wipes can be used for day to day cleaning. For sterilizing, boiling is not an option since there are electrical components, so a 10 percent bleach solution is the way to go. Being silicone (and black), the Risque does collect lint and fuzz. A wipe down may be needed before use as well.

Once clean and dry, the Risque should be stored in a lint free cloth or pouch. If storing for long periods of time, it's best to remove the batteries. Only use water based lubricants with this toy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The packaging is fairly standard. It is a plastic, clear box with a clear window and text advertising the toy. Since it has a window, the packaging is not discreet, but it isn't raunchy. It is not intended for long term storage.
    • Not discreet

Experience

It appears that I'm becoming a bit of the anal toy lady when it comes to reviews. Because of this, I have experience to compare the Risque to other competing toys. The Risque is made of silicone and vibrates, which puts it above most of its competitors. The only major fault is the base construction. If the base was a bit smaller or less curved, it would be more comfortable to wear.

Given its price, the Risque is not a bad deal. It's not the best bet to use for dual penetration for sex. It will pop out, unless the giving partner keeps the plug in place.
