Icicles No. 14 - butt plug discontinued by Pipedream - review by Kindred

Icicles No. 14 is a piece of beautiful glass art that happens to double as a butt plug. Don't let its simplicity of design fool you because not only is it functional, but it performs its job exceptionally well. The large bulbous head, combined with the weight of the glass, provides a full and satisfying sensation. The size of the head applies pressure on the prostate on insertion and the design of the handle allows you to control the amount of pressure and direction of the toy further. Or better yet, let your partner have some fun and submit to their whims. The Pyrex glass allows you to heat the toy up or cool it down based on your temperature play preference, just avoid sudden and dramatic temperature changes that cold crack the glass.

Icicles No. 14 is made of clear Pyrex glass which is completely smooth and free of any imperfections. It reflects light on the surface and magnifies images when you look through it. Its beauty demands your attention. I can't help myself but to pick it up and feel how cool it is to touch. And the weight is surprisingly more than you might think (7 oz). The next thing you notice is just how hard it feels, but that's absolutely one of its many positive attributes. The hardness, combined with the size of the plug, allows for every little adjustment to be felt and for pressure to be directed exactly where you would like it.

Icicles No. 14 is 6" overall in length, has an insertable length of 4", and is comprised of three sections which I will describe individually.



The head has a somewhat bulbous shape with an ever so slight angle to it. The head measures 2-1/2" in length and has a maximum diameter of 1-5/8" which translates into a circumference of 5-1/2". Take careful note of these measurements; this is not a toy for a beginner. The "tip" of the head is about 1/2" across meaning it's narrow enough to make insertion easier but not so narrow as to be pointy. The head then flares out to the maximum width after about 1-3/4" and then gradually tapers back down to a 1" diameter. The tapering on both ends of the head is a wonderful detail that allows for easy insertion and removal.

The neck measures 1-1/2" in length with a diameter of 7/8" (2-3/4" circumference). It is attached to the head at a slight downward angle which effectively continues the taper from the head. The length and size of the neck are nice in that they allow for some gentle thrusting of the plug.

The handle consists of a 1/2" thick ring with a 2" outer circumference. The handle also appears to be attached at a slight angle relative to the neck portion continuing the overall subtle curve of the plug. Personally, the handle is the perfect size for me to be able to insert two fingers comfortably for subtle manipulations. The overall handle size is also comfortable for me to grasp in the palm of my hand for more vigorous thrusting/pressure. The size of the handle also functions to prevent the entire toy from slipping inside. One drawback of the handle is that it protrudes quite a bit from between your butt cheeks which prevents you from sitting comfortably.

Icicles No. 14 is not what I would describe as discreet, especially for anyone with any knowledge of anal plugs. However, I currently display it on a dark wood shelf as glass art.

As a plug, Icicles No. 14 performs its function quite nicely. Despite its large size, the smooth and slick (once lube is applied) surface of the head slides in with surprising ease. Once in, the sheer size of the head, combined with the subtle angle, applied some gentle yet stimulating pressure to the prostate. The head:neck size ratio ensured that the plug stayed in at all times, and the large handle provided plenty of insurance that the toy would not slip in at all. The plug also stayed in during intercourse with my wife, even through orgasm which is a feature I've been looking for.

The plug is extremely comfortable to wear simply inserted with no additional manipulation. There were no sharp or pokey sensations and the plug sat nice and snug inside. For a slightly increased sensation, you can contract your muscles and literally pull the plug in tighter and deeper. This applies more pressure and a greater amount of surface area of the plug on your prostate. Still want more? Then grab that handle and start playing to your heart's content. I found the handle to be well sized for me to insert two fingers and be able to grasp for manipulation. I was able to angle the toy and apply greater pressure without problem. For even more intense sensations, I was able to grasp the entire handle in my palm and generate short forceful thrusts. For reference, I have relatively small hands and my palm measures about 3-1/2" across.

The handle of the toy is slender and sits comfortably between your cheeks. There is no poking due to an overly large base. However, the 2" diameter of the handle does protrude a bit, which makes sitting on the plug nearly impossible. I was able to sit on my side, but sitting straight down on the plug was uncomfortable. I found the size of the handle to be an advantage when I sat on top of my wife cowboy style. In this position on top, I found I could gyrate and move the plug within me, but that the gyrations also caused the handle to rub her clit nicely. The size and position were perfect. Just be sure to use a little lube as the rubbing glass was otherwise uncomfortable for her.

I found another unintended use for Icicles No. 14 which was a pleasant surprise. Most recently, I have very much gotten into performing sensual massages on my wife. When I looked at the plug, I thought that the head might be large enough to use as a deep tissue massager, and it works quite well. I find that I can grab the massager in my hand along the curve of the toy and manipulate the surface of the head to apply pressure. However, given the hardness of the material and the relatively small size of the head, I would suggest you use it only for deep tissue massage and with caution. I also like that I can warm up the toy to add heat to the massage which really helps to loosen and relax muscles.

Icicles No. 14 is made of Pyrex glass which makes it extremely easy to care for. It can be sterilized by boiling for 3 minutes, placing it in the top rack of a dishwasher, or using a 10% bleach solution. For more routine cleaning, you can simply use a toy cleaner or antibacterial soap and water. The surface is completely smooth so no scrubbing should be necessary. Another nice feature of glass is that it is compatible with any type of lubricant so you are free to use your favorite choice. Personally, I like to use a silicone based lubricant since it only requires a few drops and does not dry out when I plan to wear it for extended periods.

Although Pyrex glass is strong and durable, care should still be taken to prevent the possibility of chipping or cracking. Ideally, the toy should be stored in a padded pouch, although a clean sock works in a pinch as well. Inexplicably, Pipedream does not provide a pouch with Icicles No. 14.

Icicles No. 14 comes in a very attractive box designed with a black and white motif. Each side of the box is adorned with a glossy image of the plug on a matte background. The front of the box opens like a book cover to reveal the plug behind a clear plastic window, all safe and snug in styrofoam padding. The front cover is secured in place with a hidden magnet to prevent it from flapping about needlessly. The inside and back cover provide some general information regarding the toy including temperature play and cleaning suggestions. There are no other instructions provided but none are really needed with this type of product.

The packaging is very tasteful and would be extremely appropriate for gifting purposes. I would consider the box to be semi-discreet as there are no images of naked people or mention of sex. The No. 14 is only referred to as a massager. While the box could be used for storage, it would not be exactly convenient. Personally, I prefer to store mine on a shelf to be enjoyed as a piece of art.

I just wanted to add an extra comment that since this is a glass toy, please check it carefully before each use for any potential chips or cracks to the surface. I would not recommend using the toy any longer if you do find any damage. The first plug I received had a small but visible crack in the handle portion. While I could not feel the crack, I was not comfortable using the toy at the risk of the handle breaking. EF was kind enough to immediately ship me a replacement.
