A Silky, Frustrating Experience

If you're looking for a sensuous mouth gag in the style of a bit, Doc Johnson wants to catch your eyes with its striking designs. While both the packaging and actual mouth bit are pretty, neither is quite functional. The silk straps are potentially too long, can tangle with hair and are hard to put on and keep in place. If you have the magic touch, you might like this design, but it may just prove frustrating.

Use

The black rose mouth bit is a gag with a feminine and colorful flair. It'll add a sensuous flair to your BDSM play or work as a comfortable and non-intimidating introduction to mouth bondage. If you already own purple bedroom gear, you might want to add this to your collection.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The design of this piece is ultimately basic. The mouth bit itself is a plastic tube, like a pipe, that slides over a piece of purple silk, which you then tie around your head or that of your partner. Doc Johnson has created a design with that features a black pleather-type rose sewn into the silk on either side of the bit. The pleather is textured and interesting to look at. The mouth piece can move to the side a bit, but the roses actually prevent you from removing the bit to perform any cleaning.

The pictures on EdenFantasys picture a light to medium purple, but the color is actually a frosty, darker purple. The packaging itself makes it look like it has more of a red hue, but it's a cool and blue purple, instead.

The plastic mouth piece is quite narrow, which might make this more comfortable for people with smaller jaws. Ball gags can be uncomfortable, especially after prolonged periods of time, and it seems like this one would be more comfortable. The bit itself is plenty long at 5". It also ever-so-slightly curves. I would think the curving toward the face is the best way to wear this, but it might touch your cheeks. You could turn it so that it curves away, too, but this might be less comfortable.

The silk on either side of the bit extends for quite a bit -- a full 56 inches, actually. There's over two feet of material on either side, which almost seems like overkill. Of course, it gives you plenty of room to tie a pretty bow or perhaps to tie into the other Dark Rose silk pieces that Doc Johnson offers.

The silk is folded over and sewn flat, with the ends angled. The stitching seems secure, and the material will feel smooth to both the wearer and anyone who touches her face. However, silk is delicate enough that you will want to avoid snagging it on any nails, which can cause damage to the straps of the mouth bits. The roses themselves are sewn securely and stick out from the straps. Where the roses are placed, the straps begin to curve together, allowing them to slip through the tube.

The roses could potentially unravel completely if the switching began to give. Because of the design, you could possibly remove the roses from the whole piece with some careful cutting, but I wouldn't advise it.

Performance

The softer plastic design is easier on the mouth and jaw than some of the other bits on the market, but it's not squishy. When the wearer bites down on it, another person could potentially grab it from the sides, which extend from the sides of the jaw, using it to control the wearer. As the wearer, you can plainly make noise, but whether another person can understand you is doubtful.

The major design flaw of the mouth guard is the silk straps. You'll have to struggle to get it the right tightness so that it stays in place, and the silky silk will have the potential to slip when the wearer is resting his head against something, like a pillow. Furthermore, tying will take some practice to prevent long hair from getting caught. Ultimately, Doc Johnson might have a better design if there was an elastic headband and a bow permanently sewn to the back to give it the same sensuous appearance without sacrificing so much functionality.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning will be a bit tricky with this, because you cannot remove the bit. You'll have to either carefully run it under water while you watch with soap or you could wipe it down with a toy cleaning wipe. Unfortunately, neither way really cleans the interior of the tube, unless you allow the ribbon itself to soak, which lends itself to issues when it comes to drying. Although, the package says that this is washable, it also warns that it's not machine washable. What this meas for you, is that you can spot clean the gag or very gently hand wash it.

You can store this in small spaces by wrapping the silk around the bit. However, a gentle fold might be the better option to prevent it from wrinkling.

Packaging

Doc Johnson packages this in a box that is pretty unnecessary. It does feature the black and purple image of a woman wearing the bit, so it's not discreet, and I like the style of the art, but it's bulky enough that you might not want to keep it for storage. Nevertheless, you can easily recycle the cardboard

Thank you so much! It stinks that it's too silky to stay in place.
