It consists of a handle, a long shaft, and the folded leather tip is secured in place by a wrapped thread around the end of the shaft. The tip of the crop feels matte and smoother due to the fact it is made from an unfinished leather. This tip has a stronger scent than the rest of the crop, but neither scent can be detected unless put directly under the nose. This is a great crop for teasing your partner. While in use, the crop can be fairly loud when it snaps against the skin, and makes a thudding noise when it makes contact. If you're swinging it with more force, it makes a cutting sound through the air as you swing it. You may or may not be able to hear the thud when it hits the skin through the door, so err on the side of caution if you're worried about someone hearing this slapping against your partner.

Leather is an extremely porous material so you should always consider this crop to be fluid-bonded with whatever partner you use it on naked. Sweat, lubricants, or any other bodily fluids will easily soak into this crop, so it's best to limit the use of this crop to one partner. On the Eden page it says you can clean this with a damp cloth using a mild soap if necessary, and I whole-heartedly agree. For even better results, it's best to use an unscented mild soap, since leather can soak up any unwanted scents that get on the surface. If your leather looks like it's getting moldy, or getting an unwanted film on it, leave it out in the sun for a day and try to wipe it down the best you can with a cloth.

If you're using soap and water on this, it's best to sun-dry the crop anyway, as it will dry it faster and prevent any unwanted mildew forming. If your crop looks dry, or feels unusual in your hand, you could wipe it down with a leather conditioner. These can be found in shoe stores, leather shops, or mass merchandisers usually. Follow the directions on the leather conditioner bottle if you're using this, and your leather should start looking as good as new in no time at all. Do NOT submerge the crop in water. The braided leather will soak through and create places for harboring bacteria and mold.

After you've finished cleaning and drying your crop, it is easily hung by the strap on a hook. The crop should be hung, or laid flat in a cool, dry place. Do not bend your crop or force it into an unnatural position inside of something, as it can create permanent damage to the plastic cane, causing it to warp or break. While the crop can be a little bit difficult to store due to the size and having to keep it straight, it is thin enough to hide behind a dresser or in the top of a closet out of reach and sight. Leather can sometimes be high maintenance but for the most part, this crop is relatively simple to take care of.

The crop was shipped discreetly in a cardboard box without any indication as to what was inside. The cardboard box that this toy was shipped in was huge, and the crop was packed in with air pillows to keep it from shifting around during shipment. It came in a cardboard box that was twice as long as the crop. The crop itself comes packaged in a sealed cellophane wrapper without instructions. Instructions on cleaning would have been useful, but the crop didn't come with any.

If gifting this item you will have to find a gift box long enough to lay this crop in. If the person you're gifting it to is easily embarrassed, a warning about it being an adult item may be necessary if they're opening this in front of guests. Leave your friend or partner guessing what's in the long box at the end of the table with just an 'adult item' mention in their ear.

All of the packaging is recyclable due to it being so minimal.

This may or may not leave marks on your skin. I'm honestly tough-skinned, and this did not leave marks on my pale Casper white skin. I've read other reviews that say if you hit hard enough it will. It all depends on your personal preferences and what you can take pain wise. My girlfriend had marks on her where I snapped her thighs quite a few times during rough play, but it didn't cause the skin to break. She loved the tickling sensation it left when I dragged it over her back and thighs slowly, due to the softness of the leather tip.

If you want, get a little more into it with restraints, a blindfold or a gag. Always practice BDSM safely.
