For the Discriminating Rider

This is very well put together and will last for years. The shaft is stiff enough so that your blows will not be in exactly the right place. It makes a good loud sound when contacting the skin. To inflict red marks you will need to put a bit of effort behind the blows. The tip has a matte finish that does make cleaning harder and doesn't provide as much sting as one with a shiny finish. Great for beginner to intermediate players. A drawback is the tip has a strong chemical smell.

Use

Some people are hesitant to purchase a company branded item because they do not know the quality level. I can say this is a good quality crop for a very reasonable cost.

This crop is for the beginner to intermediate player. The tip has a matte finish so this dulls the sting a bit. It will leave marks, but you will need to have a bit more power behind your swings (if that is your goal). Therefore, those who are more advanced and are not up for a workout when leaving marks, may want to make another selection.

The length of 29" makes it difficult to travel with as it will not fit in most suitcases easily. Because crops are thin, you can tuck this back in the corner of your closet or between your mattress and bed frame.

This is a very well put together crop. The braiding is tight. There is no fraying and the tip is very secure. The plastic rod that makes up the handle and shaft is very strong and will withstand a good amount of abuse.

The colors make it good for anyone. Neither too masculine or too feminine.

It makes a good crack even when not swung very hard. This is good for the beginner who wants the experience without the pain or marks.

Design / Craftsmanship / Size / Material / Features

This crop has some length to it. The overall length is 29". The tip is 2" wide by 3.5" long.
End
The shaft is 18.5" long. The handle is 7" long. The shaft and handle are made of an opaque plastic rod covered by a herringbone patterned leather braiding. The braiding is black and dark purple with a shiny finish.

The top and bottom of the handle has black braiding giving it a nice contrast. There is a leather strap to keep it attached to your wrist.
handle 2

The leather strap is fairly thin but well attached to the top of the handle. It appears to be very sturdy.
handle

The tip is attached to the handle by a shiny black wrapped string that is wound tightly to the shaft. The tip is made of a black unfinished leather which has a matte finish.

Performance

The pros of this crop are:
* Price. This is very affordable for those on a budget looking for something that will last.
* Handle is braided. This make it easy to hold on to even if your hand gets a bit sweaty.
* Long wrist strap is great for those with larger hands and wrists.
* Tip is well attached to shaft. You will not have any worries of the tip coming off during use.
* Strong shaft. The shaft is made of a rigid plastic rod.
* Great design. The braided pattern and strong deep purple and black colors look good.
* Shaft and handle have traditional leather scent. If you are buying leather, you usually expect it to smell like leather.

The drawbacks of this crop are:
* Strong chemical scent of tip. It does not smell like leather, but smells of some kind of chemical. Likely the chemical used to dye the leather black. I am not very sensitive to scents but this was a bit overpowering. You will want to let this air out for a while prior to using.
* Tip does not have a shiny finish. This makes cleaning harder and dulls the sting.
* Long strap may be a drawback if you have smaller hands and wrists.

Care and Maintenance

Leather is rated a 2 on the Eden Safety Scale. It can easily absorb fluids and is difficult to clean. The tip has a matte finish so it is more likely to absorb any fluids that it may come into contact with. Leather stains easily so you will want to keep it away from water, bodily fluids and lubes. The braiding will allow dirt and moisture to slip in between the braiding. If it does get any fluids on it, quickly wipe them off.

Due to the ability of leather and in particular the unfinished tip of this crop to absorb fluids, I would not share it with anyone you are not fluid bonded with.
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The packaging is minimal. It comes in a thin sealed plastic cover. There is no product information or label.
