Hearts In Love

If looking for a beginner-friendly flogger, the Hearts Leather Whip provides soft flogger tails along with a beginner-friendly price point. With the small length, it's easy to learn to use, and the leather feels soft against the skin while still providing a small bite.

The Hearts Leather Whip is a leather and metal flogger designed by PHS International. The flogger has a diameter of about an inch, and it is about a foot and a half long. The flogger includes a small hanging D-ring at the handle for hanging, and it includes little heart-like designs on the handle. For those that like a matching set, there is also a Hearts Blindfold and Hearts Wrist/Ankle Restraints (sold separately).

The packaging for this whip is pretty basic. I'm not sure why they call it a whip since this actually is a flogger, but that's besides the point. The packaging is a blister-pack packaging that is see-through in the front and allows you to see the flogger through the front. As the flogger is prone to shedding when you first get it, you might want to keep your toy in the packaging just to avoid getting leather pieces all over.

The Hearts Leather Whip seems surprisingly well made. The leather is softened, and the handle's material seems like it is well-attached to the flogger handle. The rivets seem like they'll hold the flogger together really well, and the leather is mostly cut evenly. However, don't expect this to have the quality of luxury floggers; it doesn't. You can see the areas where the leather was cut into the flogger tails easily, some of the leather cuts are uneven, and at places, it just looks like all of the parts are just glued/put together. For the price point, though, the flogger is pretty well-made, and it doesn't look like it's going to fall apart which is what I expect from my kink items.

Don't let the product pictures fool you - the Hearts Leather Whip is actually surprisingly soft. Normally, when a flogger is around this price point and has stiff-looking leather like the product photos led me to believe, the flogger's tails tend to be that icky, stiff leather that doesn't feel sexy or pleasant on the skin. I am MORE than happy to report that it isn't the case with this one!

One thing that I'm fond of is the short length. Yes, it's fun to use longer floggers, but when it comes to handling, using a shorter flogger like this is almost always easier to aim. For beginners, this is definitely crucial; you don't want to be hitting your partner in ways that were not planned for. Compared to many other floggers out there, I'd recommend this one more than others because it's easier to pick up and use and avoid harming your partner.

As for sensation, it depends on how well you aim. If you aim the flogger well (hitting only with the tips), there is a stingy sensation with moderate swings. However, it's not nearly as bad as some other floggers. It really has more "sound" than it actually does for "bite". It is slightly thuddy, but it does have a stinging feeling to it as well. If you're being really light, it doesn't have too much of a sting, but with a moderate or harder hit, it does have a sting. Just be careful about wrap-around - if you let the tails wrap around due to missing your exact mark, it does hurt a lot more. However, for the average person, I think, with moderate swings, the stingy sensation is easily tolerable and will produce the slight sting that most people think of when they imagine a flogger.

Handling this flogger is pretty decent too. The handle is a bit smaller in length than I'd like compared to most floggers, but as long as you don't have a much-larger-than-average hand, you should be able to grasp the handle fine. I had no issues with the flogger slipping out of my hand. I didn't particularly like the very small D-ring at the end of the handle which doesn't really fit into my current storage solution for floggers, but at least the D-ring doesn't get in the way while wielding the flogger, either, so there's a plus side as well.

To clean this leather flogger, you'll want to get a slightly damp washcloth and gently wipe down the leather. Leather doesn't particularly like soap, so don't use much (if any!) soap to clean the leather. Because it's leather, it can't be sterilized, so make sure to consider this flogger fluid-bonded once you've used it with a partner. To preserve the leather, try to keep the flogger away from bodily fluids.

Really, if you want a flogger that's small in size, delivers a good sensation, is easier-than-most for a beginner to handle, and has a pretty affordable price, the Hearts Leather Whip does a pretty good job. It's not the *highest* quality flogger out there, but with its price point, it does hold its own.
