Although cock rings are among some of the simplest but most useful of toys for men, they come in many different styles and are made from many different materials. Some are made from metal and are rigid, some are firm rubber or silicone and may bend a little, some are soft and stretchable, and others can be tied on. The Red’s Black Leather Velcro Cock Strap (distributed by Doc Johnson) is made from (yup, you guessed it) leather! While it’s fun to experiment with different kinds of cock rings, during my foray into erection enhancement devices (in other words, cock rings) I recently tried semi-rigid ones. I've also been a bit worried about getting a metal one stuck around my package and have absolutely no desire to end up in the emergency room in order to get it removed. The problem with the semi-rigid silicone cock rings that I've tried is that I discovered that the diameter of my entire package appears to be on the large size and I simply can’t get them on (therefore, I’m not about to try a rigid metal one). I have also found that some of the very stretchable ones don’t do a good job and some of them are adorned with (stupid) animals, such as pink bunnies and elephants. There’s nothing particularly manly about wearing Dumbo or Flipper on my penis.

To date, my favorite cock rings have been simple silicone ones and those that have some stretch (but without the cutesy stuff). I had not, however, yet tried a leather one that snaps, buckles, or has another means of being wrapped around my manhood. Given these experiences, I decided to get my first leather cock ring – Doc Johnson’s Velcro Cock Strap. Based upon the photograph provided by EF, I decide to give it a try and I’m glad I did.

This cock ring can’t be any easier to get on – just wrap it around you package and attach the Velcro – that’s it! Very easy! Taking it off is just as simple. Although this cock ring is certainly suitable for beginners (there is no need to worry about visits to the emergency room and it will probably fit most men as it is very adjustable), it also serves its purpose well to keep you hard. As an added bonus, it also looks great.

This strap is made from a single piece of chrome-tanned leather which means that it is relatively soft and bendable – somewhat like a leather belt. The leather is folded on the sides and is stitched together to make it more durable. I’m not certain but it appears to be made from pig skin and has a nice texture to it. Right out of the package, it feels a bit stiff. This did not bother me although others might not like it. With use, however, it should become softer and more pliable.

The design of the Velcro Cock Strap couldn't be any simpler: it’s approximately 9 inches in length and 5/8 inch in width. Unlike the EF stock photo, mine has black (not red) Velcro on the ends, although the stitching on the sides is red. Personally, I like the one I received better than the one pictured.





Due to the use of Velcro, the size is adjustable for most penises. Even though my package seems to be larger than most, I had no problem putting this strap on. It’s actually rather comfortable and looks great while wearing it. Another thing I was worried about (at least at first) was whether hair would get caught in the Velcro. That, however, has not been a problem for me so my fears were unfounded.

There are two minor problems with the design. The first is that the stitching is not finished off and may eventually unravel. However, it appears as if the leather was glued together before it was stitched and that should also enhance the durability. The other problem is that the Velcro does pick up lint. That’s not a problem but is more of a nuisance.

Although most cock rings are made from metal or synthetic materials, the Velcro Cock Strap is leather and that presents a few concerns. Specifically, leather is a porous materials and therefore is a great place for creepy crawlies and other gross microorganisms to thrive in. Although this may not present problems for a single user, the strap should not be shared. Leather should also not get wet too often or it may become brittle and crack. A damp cloth and gentle soap should be used to wipe it off but be sure to dry it thoroughly before storing. I’m curious to see what effect that lube has on it over a period of time. I suspect that it may make the leather softer. While I have not yet observed if the leather will become stained over time, I suspect it will not as a result of how it was tanned.

This cock strap comes in a relatively large plastic blister pack. If a paper insert was not included (see below), the intended use of this product would be unknown – it can easily be mistaken for a leather bracelet. However, even a cursory examination of the insert reveals its intended use.





As noted, the usual warnings about prolonged use of erection enhancers is mentioned. In addition, cock rings should never be used for more than 30 minutes and care must be taken so protect your penis from harm.

So far, I really like this cock strap – it’s comfortable, looks great, and is extremely easy to put on and take off. As long as it’s adjusted properly, which is very easy to do, it works very well at keeping me nice and hard. I suspect that this may become one of my favorite cock rings and, as it is very inexpensive, it’s easy to replace. This is certainly a good item for beginners interested in cock rings or for those who like simplicity and efficiency.
