Time For Restraint

The Vegan Jaguar Cuffs by Aslan Leather are lovely and functional cuffs. They are made from faux leather, but they look and feel like the real thing. They are comfortable to wear, and adjustable for various wrist sizes, although they may be too small to wear as ankle cuffs. Each cuff features a locking buckle and a D-ring to keep the wearer under control.

Use

These cuffs should work well for both beginning and advanced users. The cuffs are simple in design, yet elegant to wear. They are adjustable to fit a variety of wrist sizes, although they may be too small to use as ankle cuffs for some individuals.

The cuffs feature a locking buckle (which can be used with or without a lock), and a D ring to attach to a variety of leads or ties. They are comfortable for long-term wear.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The cuffs are made of faux leather, and are a lovely matte red color with small grain. Black stitching holds the two pieces of the cuff, and the stitching is secure all the way around. The cuff piece is 9” long and 2” wide. The back of the cuff is finished leather.

The buckling strap is on top of the cuff piece, and is attached to the cuff by 7 nickel-plated brass studs. A nickel-plated steel D-ring is held onto the strap by the studs. The strap is 12” long, including the buckle, and is 1” wide. It features six holes for adjustability. The back of the strap is unfinished, with a suede-like feel.

The cuffs feature a locking buckle, and a small padlock fits nicely through the buckle pin.

The cuffs will comfortably fit wrists from 6 1/2" to 8 1/2". Smaller wrists will have some overlap of the cuff, while larger wrists will have a gap between cuff ends. For those with small ankles, these will work as ankle cuffs as well.

Performance

The cuffs are easy to put on by yourself, if you are adept at putting on watches or bracelets with one hand. Otherwise, a partner’s assistance will be required. The cuffs aren’t overly light, so you’ll know you have them on your wrists. The D-rings can be folded against the cuffs, or pulled out for attachment.

The leather is comfortable on the skin. It does have a tendency to trap sweat, but it is not excessive.

Care and Maintenance

These cuffs are easy to care for. They should be cleaned with dish soap or leather cleaner. A toothbrush can be used to gently scrub the surface. They should never be soaked in water. Excess soap should be removed with a moist cloth.

After washing, the cuffs should be patted dry to get all water and moisture out of any folds or creases. They should be stored out of direct sunlight and heat.

To disinfect the cuffs, they can be wiped with a solution of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

The cuffs can be reconditioned with leather conditioner. If properly cared for, cleaned regularly and dried thoroughly prior to storage in a cool dry place, the hardware will not tarnish.

Packaging

The cuffs come in a simple plastic bag held closed by a sticky label with the item product code. The cuffs are loosely rolled together inside, and a tag is attached by plastic loop to one cuff.. A smaller fabric black tag is attached to the back side of each cuff by a stud.

Personal comments

These cuffs are made in Canada, and guaranteed for life. If the cuffs break during normal wear or are defective, Aslan Leather can be contacted for repair or replacement. The tag contains a toll-free number and a website address for the company.

Experience

I received these cuffs in conjunction with the matching collar, and I love the set! While they can be worn without the collar and are effective both in look and function, they really add to the look when worn together. I really like the color and design.

I was able to put these on without any help, but they can be tricky if you aren’t used to buckling something on your own wrist. My partner also enjoyed putting these on me, especially when he locked them on. He enjoyed how these looked, and the D-rings allowed him to tie them together, as well as well as attach them to other ties and hold on to them with his fingers.

These will be part of our toybox for erotic play for a long time to come.
Follow-up commentary
I absolutely love these cuffs. With the matching collar that we have, they really have a wonderful look. They are comfortable to wear, and have not bled or creased. The metal still looks great and has no discoloration or tarnish.

I wish these also came in a larger size, so I could have them as ankle cuffs as well - these are just too small to fit mine.

Nice review Sammi! I've had good experiences with Aslan Leather so far, and seems like these are just as nice. I do have one question though. Are the edges of these cuffs comfortable against struggling? For those who like to struggle during bondage play, are they going to dig into the skin uncomfortably? Would a struggler be better of with lined/padded cuffs? Or do you think these are still comfortable enough?
  • Contributor: Sammi
That's a good question. I'm not a huge struggler, but I didn't think they were digging into my skin much at all when I did, and I didn't find it uncomfortable. The backs are smooth, and the side edges (all the way around) are the unfinished suede. Do you have a link to a particular pair that are lined or padded? I might be able to make a better comparison then.

    Thanks!

    Sammi,
The padded or lined cuffs just have an extra layer of padding built into them inside. Many companies make them. Here's a link to Aslan Leather's Here. From that picture, it may be a bit difficult to see what the padding is like though. A better picture might be their suspension cuffs at EF here.

I obviously realize that there is going to be a difference, but am just wondering if the unpadded ones from Aslan will be comfortable enough to struggle against without digging in, rubbing, cutting off circulation, etc... or if someone should buy the padded ones instead when dealing with a partner who enjoys struggling.

    Thanks.

I think you'd feel these quite a bit more (guessing from the pictures), but I'm not sure how uncomfortable they'd be. I don't think there'd be a problem with rubbing or cutting off circulation, but they might dig in some around the top and bottom.

    Sorry I can't answer better!

Thanks for the info... that does help. And maybe you'll have an excuse now to go do a little more...uh... "research" on the product! Winking

Nothing wrong with a little research Smile

I'm curious but what exactly IS faux leather?
  • Contributor: Sammi
I'm not exactly sure of the components. It looks and feels like leather, but it's not. I wasn't answered in the forum threads, so it could be a trade formulation. There is a wiki article on the different kinds of faux leather, but I'm not sure what kind these are made from.

I wish these were just a hair bigger so they could double as ankle cuffs. They'd fit my tiny ankles, but just barely.

    Thanks for the review!
