New comers strap-on kit - beginner harness and dildo set by Sportsheets - review by phoenixfire

New comers kit comes up just short

Easy to maintain nearly all in one set for beginners. Good for the curious who aren't willing to go out on too much of a limb.
Not intimidating, machine washable, fits lots of shapes and sizes
Hard to keep adjusted, fits a limited size of dildos. May be too thin/short for some beginners

extremely useful review

For once, there's truth in advertising. The New Comers strap-on kit is very definitely for new comers to the world of dildos. The purple silicone dildo isn't intimidating in any way. It's even kind of cute and fashionable for those of us who love purple. The harness that comes with it is very comfy and fairly easy to adjust. It is designed to fit most people (hip size up to 60"). I wear a size 3x, so I was concerned about finding a harness that would fit. This one did, with plenty of room to spare. The harness is machine washable--a definite plus for busy men and women. The O ring on it will fit a dildo up to 1.5".

The dildo in this kit is made of silicone, which is a great material for beginners in the world of sex toys. Silicone is waterproof and easy to clean in a variety of ways (boiling with or without bleach, soap and water, or antibacterial sprays/wipes, whatever you prefer.) Silicone is also very soft and bendable, which makes it a very gentle material for anal use. Do not use a silicone based lube with the New Comers kit. Any other sort of lube would be fine, but silicone based lubes can degrade the silicone dildo over time.

The dildo did not have any particular smell out of the box. It was very soft and bendy, which I found appealing. I washed it with soap and water and an antibacterial wipe before my first time using it. I would recommend that you do this as well.

The harness is made of nylon, which is very soft and comfortable to wear. After a few uses, I tended to forget that I was even wearing it. However, it was tricky to adjust to the right size and keep it there. I would have preferred to leave it adjusted to fit me, but it was tough to get out of once it was adjusted to fit. Also, I suggest fitting the dildo into the O ring before you put the harness on. It can be very tricky to get the dildo on after you put on the harness. There isn't a lot of room for your fingers to maneuver with the O ring.

Design / Craftsmanship

The New Comers Harness is made of fabric and polypropylene webbing, and is fairly easy to adjust with plastic buckles for your waist and each leg. One of the downsides to it is that you can't use different O rings with it. You're stuck with the one that it comes with, which accommodates dildos up to 1.5" in diameter. This is fine for a beginner, but can be limiting if you are more experienced and/or want something with a little more girth in your life.

Size / Fit

First, the harness: I was impressed with how well this fit me. It was very comfortable, and it is made to fit up to a 60" hip, so it will adjust to fit a wide (if you'll pardon the pun) variety of shapes and sizes of users. I did have some trouble with one leg of the harness coming loose more than I would have liked. However, it's possible one could just chalk this up to my inexperience and not a flaw in the product itself.

Now, the dildo. It's about 5" long. I thought this would be plenty to get started with. It turns out that I was wrong. I found myself slipping out at the most inopportune of moments. My husband said that he would prefer a longer dildo for our next purchase, both for his own pleasure and to prevent this sort of mishap. I'm about 5 inches shorter than my husband is, and we found that this dildo was too short for us to use in some positions without the aid of some sort of stool or other prop. All of this awkwardness marred what was otherwise an awesome experience, as long as we could keep everything lined up properly.

All in all, I would say that this is a great harness, and the price is hard to beat considering that it includes the dildo. It's a good starter kit to see if your partner is really interested in strap-ons. If you want to pursue it after your first few tries, though, you should probably invest in another dildo that will fit the O ring in this harness.
    • Adjustable
    • Fits comfortably
    • Will fit most body sizes and types

As I said earlier, this harness is very easy to adjust and comfy to wear for long periods. I found that I didn't even want to take it off after a while. However, it is hard to get out of once you have it adjusted to fit your body. You need to fit the dildo into the harness before putting the harness on. People with small hands may not have as much trouble with this as I did, but I found it very hard to put the harness on first and then fit the dildo in.

I tried a variety of positions to fix the fact that I kept slipping out during use. Some positions did work better than others, and I am willing to credit some of the problems to the fact that I'm a beginner. However, my partner and I just needed a longer dildo than the one provided. Bottom line. (Again, pardon the puns.) This dildo may be just fine for you if you are really intimidated by the idea of strap-ons and want to try something very basic and tame.
    • Comfortable during use
    • Easy to put on
    • Holds toys very well

Care and Maintenance

The harness is machine washable. You should not put it through a clothes dryer. I simply hang mine over my shower rod to dry. I love the simplicity of that. As for the dildo, it is super easy to clean because it's silicone. Soap and water will do in a pinch, though you may be more comfortable with using an antibacterial spray or wipe (or even boiling with a bleach solution) if you're a bit of a germophobe, as I confess I am.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

The kit comes in a pink and white box with the words "Strap On and Dildo Set" prominently displayed. There is a picture of a scantily clad heterosexual couple on the front of the box, and the woman is wearing the harness and dildo. The man is looking up at her, almost as if he will put his head in her lap in a moment. It's a sturdy box with instructions for care and adjustment of the harness on the back (including some how-to pictures.) The dimensions of the harness are listed in about 8 different languages on the side of the box.

I like the fact that this package comes with lots of easy to follow instructions, and the box itself is sturdy. However, it is not discreet in the least. Nothing too risque, but the purpose of this toy can't be disguised either. If you live in an adults only home, the box the set comes in would stand up to lots of use and would likely be fine for long term storage. If, like me, you have a curious kid or two (or some nosy neighbors) you may want to ditch the box and invest in a toy chest instead.
    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet
    • Very informative

My husband and I had a lot of fun using this harness. This is a great set for getting your feet wet, so to speak, in the world of strap-ons, anal play, and dildos. However, it isn't likely to satisfy if you are more experienced. Even if you are a beginner, if you are pretty sure you'll like this kind of thing, you may want to purchase a set with a little more girth and length. Even though this set didn't have the dimensions we needed, I think it was a decent investment because the harness is likely to last and get reused a lot.

We had a lot of fun playing with gender roles and new positions using the New Comers Set. I think almost any combination of male and female partners could have fun with this. (Keep in mind, of course, that you should always clean your dildo between uses and when going from vaginal play to anal play or vice versa. I personally use fear of germs as an excuse to get his and hers dildos, but your budget may not allow this.)
Follow-up commentary
To be honest, this set still has some flaws for me, but I think we may continue to use the harness even if we find one that is easier to fit the dildo into. I love the fact that I can just throw this harness into the washer and hit to dry! "Anything that saves me time is worth paying extra for," is one of my mottos. Just now, we don't use the harness a lot because we need a longer dildo for it, but it'll get a lot more use as soon as we get that problem fixed.

Great review. Thanks for all the details. We'll look for a longer one.

I'm planning on it, Herzer. May also get a harness of a more luxurious material down the line, but this one is hard to beat for comfort and ease of cleaning, and I love things that save me time!
