Smooth, but not suave

The Envie Smooth didn't wow me, but it's still a solid toy that is going to be great for certain people. While it's a bit thicker and louder than the Envie Ripples, it's still got 7 patterns, strong vibrations, and is entirely waterproof. Though it's not my new favorite, I would still recommend it.

Use

The Envie Smooth Massager by New Sensations Novelties is a fairly petite and standard toy. It's part of their silicone line that has a loop around the base. There is also one with a g-spotting tip and one with a rippled shaft. These toys are all very high quality.

The Envie Smooth massager is mainly marketed as an internal toy for people with lady bits. It can easily be inserted vaginally because of the design and material. It's not the best for those who have a hard to reach g-spot, but I personally was able to reach mine with this toy.

Because of the easy to hold loop handle, this toy is anal safe as long as you don't let go of it. The smooth material also makes it nice to thrust with anally, and it should be moderately good for prostate stimulation, the same way it's fairly good at g-spot stimulation.

You also can use this externally. It's a nice shape for fairly broad clitoral stimulation, but if you want something focused it might not be up your alley. It's also good to use on the nipples and other erogenous zones. While it's useable for body massages, it wouldn't be my first choice.

If you're looking for something to introduce toys into a relationship, this wouldn't be too bad. It's not phallic, it's versatile, and it's not super expensive. While it may be a bit more intimidating than a bullet, it's also easier to use during intercourse for clitoral stimulation.

I feel similarly about this being anyones first toy in general. If you're looking for something and you're used to penetration, this might be a good bet. While the Ripples is a bit thinner, this toy is more basic and has the ridges along the base. Even though it wouldn't be my first recommendation, it's certainly pretty high on the list.

The Envie Smooth 90% passes Ryu's dorm seal of approval. While this toy is easy to care for and compact, it could potentially be heard over the public showers and if the walls are thin and it's very quiet there's a small possibility it could be heard out side of the room. Because of that it doesn't get my full 100%.

Material / Texture

This toy is made of both silicone and plastic. There is a 'spine' inside the shaft made of plastic, and the buttons and handle are made of plastic, but the 'sleeve' on top of the spine is made of plush, black silicone. You can't remove the outside of the sleeve, but you can kind of rotate it a bit.

Silicone is rated a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale, and it's both nonporous and body safe. This means that microbes can't thrive under the surface and that it doesn't contain any ucky chemicals that could seep into your body. On it's own you can boil silicone to disinfect it, but you can't boil this toy because of the plastic components.

Plastic is rated an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It's also nonporous and body safe, but plastic is much firmer than silicone is. The plastic shaft gives this toy firmness enough that it's great for thrusting. You can disinfect plastic safely by wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution.

The thicker part of the shaft and the silicone ridges at the base have a bit of give to them. This means you can squeeze them, but the hard plastic underneath still makes this rigid enough to thrust with and to put pressure on the g-spot or prostate. If you're looking for something soft, this isn't going to be your best bet.

While lube is recommended, it's not a necessity. The shaft and the buttons do have a bit of drag, but if you either plan on using this externally or you usually only rely on your natural lubricant you can get away with not needing any lube. If you do use lube, you should avoid anything silicone based.

Overall, silicone and plastic are both awesome materials that are easy to care for and are great to use. They're not going to harbor bacteria or degrade, and they don't contain any ucky chemicals. I would highly recommend both materials for beginners and advanced users, though you do need to take care when considering material compatibility.

Design / Shape / Size

The Envie Smooth Massager is quite a bit thicker than I anticipated, though that's not entirely a bad thing. It's versatile and aesthetically pleasing, especially the black with the green accents. Though it didn't work as well for my body as the Envie Ripples, it's going to work better for people who need something short and thick.

It's 7.5 inches long in total, but two and a half of those are the unique, ergonomic handle. The insertable portion is about 5 inches long, just a bit shorter than the average penis length. The ridges on the base begin about 3.5 inches down. Because it is fairly long this should be fine for thrusting, especially if you like shorter toys.

This toy is also about 4 inches around at the widest point. I had assumed it would be similar in girth to the Envie Ripples, but to my surprise it was actually quite a bit thicker. The ridges around the base also make it 'feel' thicker than it actually is.

The shape has a bit of a point at the tip that increases until it's the full 4 inches around. This is a nice shape that makes insertion surprisingly easy. It then decreases in girth for about an inch before the ridges. It has no g-spot curve, but if you normally can find yours with a straight toy there shouldn't be any issues. It's not going to be the best shape for people who like extreme g-spot or prostate pressure.

The loop handle also makes this great for anal play. You shouldn't let go of the handle and use this toy like an anal plug, but if you hold on there is no way it's accidentally getting lost in you. Because of the ridges, though, a lot of lube is recommended.

Because of the design, the ridges are great for people who like intense stimulation around their entrance. If you're like me and only insert it 3 inches you can't feel them at all, but if you're looking for any deeper thrusting you should be prepared for them.

If you leave this out on your desk it's not obvious that it's a sex toy, but it's certainly not going to blend in with the bakewear. It's also hard to pass off as anything else, so it's best kept away from preying eyes. It's small enough that it's easy to pack, but it still may be unwieldy to carry in a purse.

Overall, this is a good toy for people who don't mind the girth. It's going to be a pretty basic toy if you have a shallow g-spot, but if you're wanting to insert it more than 3 and a half inches it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Envie Smooth (and the Ripples, for that matter) both have a fair amount of power. It also has quite a few differnet settings, which I appreciate. If you have any plug-in toys or Jopens you may not be thrilled, but it's great for the price and batteries it uses.

You control the toy entirely with the one, green button on the front of the handle. You press it once to turn it on, and it always turns back on to setting number one. You can change the settings by pressing the button again, but you can not go backwards through the settings. It's surprisingly easy to navigate with the one button. The settings are as follows:

1) Low (1.5 vrooms, 1 bee)
2) Medium (2.5 vrooms, 1.5 bees)
3) High (3.5 vrooms, 2.5 bees)
4) BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ
5) BZZZZ BZ BZ BZZZZZ BZ BZ BZZZZZ
6) bbbbbbbBBBBBBZZZZZZZZ bbbbbBBBBBBZZZZZZ
7) BZBZBZBZBZBZBZBZZZZZZZ BZBZBZBZBZBZZZZZZZZ

And then it cycles back down. You can turn this toy off at any point in time by holding the power button down for just a few seconds.

It's also entirely waterproof, and I've both used it in the shower and submerged it to clean it without any issues at all. It's a great way to spice up bath time, and being waterproof makes it super easy to clean and care for.

Now one big difference is that the Envie Smooth is about a whole bee louder than the Envie Ripples. I am not sure if it's the design or what, but it's certainly enough to make a difference to me. Because of that I'd recommend the Ripples over this one if you live with others.

The quality of vibrations is fairly buzzy, but as someone who loves deep vibrations they're still rumbly enough to make me a happy camper. While they're about halfway between being buzzy and rumbly, I think that it's a good middle ground that most people will appreciate.

Overall, the Envie Smooth has the same power as the Ripples but is a bit louder. It's also just as buzzy, and is just as waterproof. It's great for people who like patterns, and it has three different power settings if you're a user who likes to work up in intensity.

Care and Maintenance

The Envie Smooth is easy to care for but often hard to clean. The little ridges just love to collect lube, and if you insert it past them, other gunk as well. They're easy to clean with nails and a paper towel, but an old toothbrush is the ideal cleaning tool. You can wipe them off with a 10% bleach solution to disinfect them, but for basic care antibacterial toy cleaners, soap and water, or a toy wipe are fine.

I store this toy in a cool, dark place with the rest of my collection. It's best to avoid storing this with other silicone-based things because the two could react together and leave you sad. Similarly, it's best to avoid using silicone lube with the Envie series.
    • Easy to store
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The Envie Smooth comes in super classy packaging. There are two boxes that hold the toy, an inner box and an outer box. The outer box has quite a bit of information on it and is what can be seen if you buy this at a store, and the inner box has much less information and just makes the whole thing look classier.

The outer box has a full sized image of the toy on the front. It also states the name of the toy and the brand. It's entirely black, with the black and green toy outlined in a green glow. On the back of the box is a diagram highlighting the features of the toy, and on the side are some basic care instructions.

The inner box has a window where you can clearly see the toy. It also states the name and brand of it, but has nothing on the back of it. There are, again, care instructions on the back. You lift this off like a shoebox to get to the massager, which is held securely in black foam. There are no additional instructions for the toy, but they really aren't needed.

While this would be great to give as a gift, it's a bit elaborate and large for most people to use for storage. Especially if you're going to be using it very often, you may want to try and find somewhere else to keep it.

Experience

When this came up for a manufacturer sponsored review I just had to jump on the chance to have it. I seem to have some subconscious life goal to collect all of the quality massagers by NS Novelties, because now I own the Bliss, the Envie Smooth, the Envie ripples, and the Ali'se.

The Smooth just didn't work as well for my body as the ripples. While it has the same motor, power, and functions the shape and design are just boring, and the ridges at the base are irritating to insert because of how intense they are. Another thing to note is that even though they have the same motor, the Smooth is a bit louder than the Ripples. Because of these reasons I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

Now if you're looking for a basic, fairly girthy toy with a lot of functions, this is a good option. It's body safe, lights up, and is made with quality. If you're like me and have owned over 200 toys, though, this isn't going to stand out from the crowd.
