Roulette Straight up - traditional vibrator discontinued by Evolved Novelties - review by Alicia

Normally I go for more curved vibrators, since I like G-spot stimulation. I've had a lot of luck lately with straight but textured toys doing a good job of G-spotting too, so I decided to finally check out the Roulette Straight Up; I had been eyeing it for quite a while. The Straight Up certainly lives up to its name, the vibe goes straight up, starting with a thicker base and ascending into a thinner head at the tip. It's got a lot of nice texture, which varies between ribs of different sizes and bumpy nubs around the shaft.

Straight Up, like the other Evolved Roulette vibes is made from European Silicone. Anyone who has tried silicone toys knows that silicone can vary greatly; it can be super firm almost unyielding, or it can be plush and squishy. The Roulette vibes are all on the more squishy end of that spectrum, though they do have enough firmness to be great for thrusting. The shaft is not rigid; it can be bent about 45 degrees or so. Silicone is a wonderful material, and one that I always look for when I'm looking for a softer toy. Silicone is non porous and won't allow bacteria to become trapped in it. Only downside to silicone is that it doesn't work well with silicone lubricant. Silicone lubricant has the possibility of ruining the material of the toy, so stick to water based. Another thing that I love about this type particular brand's silicone is that it doesn't collect lint or hair very easily. I can wash this and then dry it off with a towel without seeing bits of the towel left behind, which is always a plus for me!

Straight Up is also waterproof, and I've successfully brought it into the shower with no adverse effects. There has never been any water that snuck up into the battery compartment, and the dial control ensures no water can sneak in as well. I actually bought this vibe with showers in mind, so I'm glad that it worked out well for this! See, shower sex can be tricky for some, and I definitely fall into that category. My husband loves shower sex, but I have a hard time orgasming when standing up. I also find that buzzier vibrations get lost in the shower, something about the water diminishes their affect on me. I knew from previous experience with the Roulette line that these vibrations are deep and throbbing, perfect for water fun! The other Roulette vibe I had was a bit too curved though, and it proved awkward for me while standing up. Luckily the Straight Up was definitely up to the task at hand and is very easy to maneuver in just about any position.

The vibrations are nice and strong, with a nice range between a low rumble to a intense, deep roar. The roar is only in the feeling though, this vibe is more of a whisper in the noise department. It's pretty impressive the amount of vibrations that come from only 2 AA batteries. I also absolutely adore the wheel control, it's so easy to use and it's perfect for slippery shower use. You just dial up to the right intensity for you and you're good to go. As much as I love the vibrations and the controls, I do have to say that it didn't really stimulate my G-spot in the way that I had initially hoped. Now, I know what you're thinking- that should have been obvious since it's so straight! Well, thing is that normally for me I get a lot of good stimulation from ribbed and textured toys. I believe what causes this one to not quite hit the spot for me is the way that it tapers up as it reaches the tip. It makes for too narrow of an area, and no matter what direction I twirl, rock or thrust I can't quite get the stimulation I crave. I also can normally achieve a blended orgasm from some deep and rapid thrusting, but with this it actually proved a bit painful! I was kind of surprised by that actually, I thought that the plush silicone would provide adequate padding, but again the narrow head proves to be a problem. I could feel it painfully poke against my cervix, and I found I needed to be more careful with this vibe than I even need to be with most of my glass toys!

All hope was not lost though; this does still provide some nice subtantial penetration, and it makes for some nice blended orgasms when paired with a clitoral vibrator. I also think it'd be great for those that do not like direct G-spot stimulation, or perhaps those who have a G-spot that's closer to the front of the vaginal wall. Mine sort of becomes tucked away and needs more pressure against it for it to be massaged well. Also, as I said above, I bought this with the intent for it to be mainly used for a shower vibrator, and curves don't work out as well for me standing up. The ribs and bumps on the shaft also add to the clitoral stimulation that this vibrator can give, which makes it a versatile work horse, and nice to have for shower play because really, who wants to bring multiple toys into the shower? I have enough trouble holding onto one in the shower, so I like that I can alternate the same toy between vaginal and clitoral pleasure. Even the packaging makes it wonderful for my intended purposes, the clear plastic tin provided by Evolved fits perfect in the cabinet I have right next to my shower.
