Content / Style / Audience

The Smart Girl's Guide to the G-Spot is an engaging book 130 page book written to educate you about what the g-spot is, how to find it, and how you or you and a partner can enjoy it. The intended audience is mainly 'smart girls' who want to find their g-spot but can be useful for male or female partners looking to learn a new skill for their partner. Violet Blue's writing style is candid, straight forward, and friendly. She makes you feel comfortable about being curious about the g-spot and encourages your search.

The book begins with an introduction which explains that the g-spot is not a myth and then outlines what the 7 chapters following will cover. Also, Violet first mentions the four erotic stories that you will find throughout the book during this section.

Chapter 1: Get Smart- The first chapter covers what the g-spot is, what it isn't, how it was discovered, the male g-spot and myths. This is basically an introduction to your g-spot and your g-spot history lesson. Violet's approach to introducing you to the history gives the g-spot roots to grow from so you know it isn't some 'new age' idea that has just arrived on the scene.

Chapter 2: What's Inside a Girl- Chapter 2 is just what it says, what's inside a girl. Violet gives you an anatomy lesson so you know what you're looking at and what she's talking about later in the book. She tells you approximately where your g-spot should be (approximate because we're all different), how to find it and what it looks like.

Chapter 3: Turn it on, Turn it up- Chapter 3 starts with Violet explaining exactly what happens in our bodies as we get turned on which is our arousal cycle. Then, Violet tells us how to stimulate our g-spot and how it should feel so you know you've found that spot. Also included in this section is information on the use of toys and lube. Chapter 3 is followed by the first erotic story by Alison Tyler. I don't want to ruin the story so you'll just have to read that part for yourself :).

Chapter 4: G-Spots are for Sharing- Chapter 4 is all about how to explore your g-spot with a partner. Violet gives you tips on how to talk about g-spot exploration with your partner if it's something you want to bring into your intimate activities. Next, Violet gives you tips on manual stimulation of the g-spot, or g-spot massage. The other partner information provided includes the use of strap-ons for g-spot stimulation and the best sex positions for g-spot stimulation. The second erotic story follows this chapter.

Chapter 5: Wet Spots: Ejaculation- Chapter 5 begins with an explanation of one (fun) side effect that g-spot orgasms can produce--female ejaculation. After explaining that it may happen and why, Violet tells you what it is that you are (hopefully) squirting. Next there are tips on how to get there and once you are there, how to stop if you want to stop. Also covered in Chapter 5 are ejaculation techniques and how to deal with wet spots. The third erotic story follows this chapter.

Chapter 6: Faster, Deeper, More!- Chapter 6 is all about multi-tasking! This chapter could also be called the G-Spot And.... Violet covers g-spot stimulation in conjunction with vibrators, anal, oral, s/m, and fisting...basically anything you could think of but with g-spot stimulation too. The fourth and final erotic story follows this chapter.

Chapter 7: Shopping and Further Study- This chapter has ideas about where to shop, how to shop, what to read, and what to watch. The final portion of chapter 7 is dedicated to safe sex information. After all, what fun is a g-spot orgasm if you contract something unpleasant in the process?

The last thing in the book is a one page section about Violet Blue.

Design

This book is published by Cleis Press. Like most of their books, this is a quality paperback. The outside is thinner cardboard that is glossy on the outside and the binding has held together with no problems. the pages are thick enough that they feel substantial but turn easily. I feel like they could withstand frequent flipping and some exposure to moisture if that were to happen.

I think the layout of the book is perfect. Everything falls in a logical order so that you are never left confused about what Violet is talking about. The first thing she does is clear up any misunderstanding about what the g-spot is and it's discovery. From there, she builds upon your basic knowledge so that you can conduct a search and stimulate mission. Violet talks to you like she's talking to a friend, you never feel like she is talking down to you or forcing any spiritual beliefs on you. The only downside to this book is the very obvious nude female body (shown just below where the breasts would be all the way to just above the vagina) that is laying across the front and the back of the book. If that isn't enough to give away what you are reading, the title will do it for you. I had no trouble taping paper over the cover to conceal what it was when I wanted to take it out in public though.

Experience

This is the first book I've read on the g-spot. I had a couple of different books selected that I was considering, but after reading other reviews, I went with this one. I'm really glad I did. From the very first sentence Violet made me feel more comfortable about the search that I have been planning on embarking on for quite some time. I feel like she explained any questions I might have come up with thoroughly. Even though I have had my vagina all my life and have been using toys to stimulate myself for years, I still wasn't quite comfortable with the idea of the g-spot and how to look for it. The description of what and where it is and what to expect or how it should feel when I find it have been tremendously helpful.

One thing that I did find kind of amusing was the ever present nudge toward fisting throughout the book. I almost felt like Violet was trying to talk me into trying it. It seemed like nearly every section mentioned it and then FINALLY, towards the end Violet addressed it directly. She gave tips and techniques, do's and don't's. I'm not sure if it was all the not quite subliminal messages throughout the book or just the way she talked about it, but I think I'd be willing to give it a try now. She made it sound that good. Especially in conjunction with the g-spot.

During and after reading this book, I have begun my g-spot search (with the aid of some lovely toys from EF). I am happy to say that, though I haven't actually reached a g-spot orgasm, I have at least located it. Just as Violet says, it may not happen the first time or even the second time. One of the tips she gives is to have strong PC muscles to improve your g-spot orgasms. I intend to continue strengthening and exploring, and thanks to this book, I feel confident doing both. This book is an easy read that pulls you through, making you want to read every page. The erotic stories were amazing, as always when it comes to Alison Tyler.
