Sextrology, The Sexual Side Of Astrology

Astrology is a very tricky topic to write about as there is a great deal of information out about it. Cox and Starsky wrote this book so that those people who are already familiar with astrology will be able to broaden their knowledge base, so that they can better help with relationship astrology.

This is NOT the book for you if you are looking for a light, fun read, or something with entertainment value.

About author

At first glance, Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox may seem a bit out there. That is just because of the topic they are writing on, though. Both are professional astrologers and published writers, who have written astrology columns for numerous major publications across the country. They present the information clearly and in great detail, while showing just how much they know about the subject.

Content / Style / Audience

This book is an educational work about the sexual aspects of astrology. There are no other books out there that touch on the specific subject, and as such should not be compared to any others works. The writing style is informative, educational, detailed, and has a good flow to it. The writing is not dry like some textbooks as there is an underlying humor throughout it.

When it comes to astrology, what most people do not realize is that there is more than just our sign based on our birthday that effects us. That is just one influence, our sun sign, in an entire chart of planets. This book goes into further detail. While you may look at the information in this book and think, "that's not me," you are not looking at the whole picture. You would have to know your 3 primary influences, as well as some minor ones, to be able to get a real look at what this book can tell you. Those who are already familiar with astrology will know about the finer points that need to be looked at, as well.

The first chapter is the introduction, which give you a little bit of background on astrology, as well as the different ways that things are viewed, and why this book is needed and important. After this, all of the chapters are based on one individual sign based on gender. So, chapter 2 is the Aries man, as the zodiac starts at the spring equinox, with chapter 3 being the Aries woman.

Each chapter starts out giving you a brief generalization of the sign being discussed, followed by talking about some of the specific aspects. These specifics are, in order:
Sign & Mind, which talks about the mental influences and references the myths of the sign.
Body & Soul, which talks about more of the physical aspects -- be it appearances, or a physical expression of romance.
Compatibility with partners, which gives a brief summary about each sign individually, with straight and gay separated into their own sections.

They do include little bits of regular astrology information on little columns that are found on the sides of the pages. Along with the traditional information, they include things like famous people of the sign and gender, straight turn-on's, gay turn-on's, and even biblical references. While you can get a good feel for astrology from these little bits of information, it is ideal for you to have some background knowledge before you try reading this book.

Design

The cover is primarily red with a little bit of white thrown in at the bottom right corner and through the middle diagonally. The cover uses a combination of black for the title and red for the authors' names. It is a 7.5" wide by 9.1" high and 1.6" thick paperback book, which weighs in at about 2 pounds. From cover page to the last sheet of paper before the back cover, it is a grand whopping 560 pages long. Unlike your paperback novels, the cover is made out of a sturdy material that is hard to accidentally rip. I have had the book for years now and have yet to have a problem with the binding letting go of any pages.

With proper care that should be given to all books, you will be able to have this book in your collection for many years.

Wow, what a terrific review! You write so succinctly & I really like that! This book sounds like a good reference book to have. I find it all so interesting and would enjoy looking things up. Thanks for the review, I may just have to go find this elsewhere since it's discontinued.
