About author

I am a regular reader of Susan Crain Bakos' blog, Sexy Prime, where she writes about sex and science, gives sexy sex tips, and offers guest-written erotic fiction. I've never read any of her books, but saw this title mentioned on her blog and thought it looked very interesting. According to the book cover, Susan is a well-known sex authority and author of twelve books. She has written for Redbook, Cosmo, Men's Health, and even Penthouse Forum, where she was a contributing editor. "The Orgasm Loop" refers to Bakos' mind-body technique for removing mental roadblocks to orgasm.

Content / Style / Audience

The Orgasm Loop is written in a conversational, informal style, with lots of sexy photos thrown in. This book is intended to help women who may have problems reaching orgasm find a way to do so more easily. It's also geared towards women who orgasm with no problem on their own to reach orgasm more easily with a partner. The book also promises to teach women how to orgasm from intercourse alone, using breathing, mental imagery, and energy focus, along with a LOT OF KEGELS! Bakos references scientific studies regarding arousal and orgasm to back up her suggestions.

Design

The book is a high quality, large, soft back. It is very well made with a glossy cover. The cover has mostly nude people on the cover, so take that into consideration, but otherwise it can be used anywhere! The layout is easy to read, and the instructional sections are interspersed with 'real talk' quotes from actual women about orgasms, and the Orgasm Loop technique. There are a lot of photos as well. The layout makes this book a quick and easy read, and attractive to people who might not like to read as much.

Personal comments

I don't have any problem reaching orgasm with or without a partner, but I still found this book to be very interesting and full of helpful ideas. Bakos offers tips to help the reader get in touch with their arousal and desire (not the same thing, by the way). Focusing on this arousal energy is a great way to intensify orgasms.
Follow-up commentary
I still like this book, and think it's full of great ideas. I have NOT, however, tried to implement any of them. I can't report in, then, on whether the 'orgasm loop' actually works.

I wonder, does she go into peri-menopause and the effect it can have on orgasm? I bought I Female Orgasm and found it was completely directed at very young, mostly pre-orgasmic women and seemed to say a lot about orgasm, but nothing in detail about orgasm issues and how to solve them.

Does this book go into specifics on these subjects?
  • Contributor: LambChop
    P'Gell,
This book focuses on mental roadblocks to orgasm, more than physiological. It's not directed at only young women, which is great. The Orgasm Loop technique can be used by any woman, at any stage of life.

You note that the book has pictures. What kind of pictures are they, and would you classify them as pornographic or non-pornographic?
  • Contributor: LambChop
    Scott,
Great question! The pictures are very much like the cover photo pictured here. Most of the photos are of one model couple in sexual poses, and the woman in various masturbation-type poses, but she is not fully blatantly nude (usually in panties, no crotch shots, no nipples), or it is implied nudity. There is a photo of the guy going down on her, but there is no nudity in that photo. I'd say the photos are artistic nudes, or soft-core porn at the very most. They really are tasteful and beautiful photos.
