Use

Bath salts have been used for many, many years to soften skin and ease muscle aches and soreness. Shunga Erotic Art has added luxury to this bathing ritual with their Shunga Oriental Bath Crystals. Simply scoop some of the crystals up with the included seashell and add to water for a brightly colored, perfumed bathing experience.

Ingredients listed on the Aphrodisia scented bath crystals are:
Sodium Chloride (Dead Sea Salts), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Dodecyl Benzoate Sulfonate, Fragrance, Glycerin, Carthamus Tinctorius Oil (Safflower Oil), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil (Almond Oil), FD&C Blue #1 (C142090).

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The Shunga Oriental Bath Crystals are a little bit larger than generic Epsom salt crystals. They are bright blue and textured, but are somewhat moist so they do feel a bit smooth when rubbed between the fingers. Rubbing them between your fingers does color them blue a little bit, but that is easily washed off. Because the product is loose, holding the container upside down (without securing the lid) will result in quite a mess. The product is easily added to a bath with the included seashell scoop.

Taste / Aroma

Trying to describe the Aphrodisia scent is a little tough. It's not floral, fruity, spicy, musky, etc... just perfumey. When I first opened the container and smelled the included floating candle (which is the same scent as the salts), it was very strong, as were the salts. If you are extremely sensitive to scents, then this might not be the best product for you. Though I honestly felt that after that initial smelling, the candle and salts didn't come off as that strong to me anymore.

As always, this is an external use only product, do not ingest. I didn't taste this, neither should you.

Performance

Because most find these bath crystals to be highly scented, only one scoop is sufficient for a bath. The product melted completely by the time I stepped into the water. It also produced a thin layer of bubbles on top. Both the bubbles and water (which had turned blue) were both lightly scented. The bubbles only lasted 10 minutes. I didn't mind this because these are bath salts, not bubble bath, so those bubbles were just a nice bonus.

When I emptied the water, there was no residue left on my skin or in the tub, nor was anything stained by the blue water. My skin was left soft and only very lightly scented. I could barely detect the scent of the product on my skin; it was so light that I could only tell that something was there, not what it was.

Because only one scoop is needed per bath, the container should yield at least a dozen or more uses. As for the included floating candle: using it in the actual bath water is not the best idea. Any movement whatsoever sends it tipping, extinguishing the flame. Instead, place it in a bowl or glass of water, or even on a dish, on the side of the tub. If one really liked the scent, the candle could also be placed in a lingerie drawer to scent your undergarments.

Packaging

The Shunga Oriental Bath Crystals come in a large, lovely container that holds 20 ounces of product. The label around the can lists the name of the product on the front and has the average Shunga art of a couple embracing. The back lists basic information about the product in several languages, the Shunga website address and ingredient list. The top has a paint can style lid and a label with the product name and scent. There is a red ribbon with a small disc attached coming from inside the container and hanging over the edge. This disc is used to open the paint can style lid.

Inside is a floating candle (in the same scent as the salts), instructions for the floating candle, a real seashell, pamphlet with information on Shunga's other products, and the salts. The salts originally come tied in a plastic bag. Simply open the bag and pour the salts into the container.

The packaging is as discreet as Shunga's products get. While it is not entirely suitable for travel because of its size, you could easily transfer some of the bath crystals into a smaller travel-friendly container.

Experience

I've always been a bubble bath type of girl. But as I get older, life's little aches and pains increase, so I definitely like adding something to my bath water that has soothing effects. I was a little leery about trying the Shunga Oriental Bath Crystals because I am scent sensitive and I was worried that they would give me a headache. Though after the first initial smelling, these don't seem so strong to me for some reason.

I love that they turned my bath water blue! The bubbles only lasted 10 minutes, but that blue water was fun. The scent of the product while in use wasn't overwhelming and didn't give me a headache at all. When I got out of the tub, my skin was very soft and my aching back and legs felt so much better.

I can definitely see why others really like this product. The container is large and because only one scoop is needed per bath, it will provide many uses. Plus there's also a real seashell and floating candle included. So awesome.

I'd most certainly recommend these bath crystals to other bath product lovers. I definitely plan on purchasing more in the future in all three scents.
Follow-up commentary
I still absolutely love these bath crystals! Since I only use one scoop per bath, it has lasted me through may uses. When I finally use this completely up, I'm definitely getting one of the other scents to try out.
