Have your Cake...and Bathe in it too!

Whether you choose to use Milk Made Frothing Bath and Shower Cream as a body wash, a bubble bath, or a shaving cream, its moisturizing and cleansing properties will leave you feeling fresh and silky soft. Be aware that while the moisturizing goes a long way, the scent itself is not very long-lasting.

Use

Milk Made Frothing Bath and Shower Cream by Cake Beauty is a lightweight, scented body wash. It is best used to cleanse and moisturize in the bath or shower, with bare hands, a washcloth, or a loofah. It can also double as a foaming bubble bath. The sweet, slightly fruity aroma is decidedly feminine, though it could certainly be used by a person of any gender. Those of you with dry skin will truly benefit from the moisturizing qualities of Milk Made. I tend to have very dry skin in the winter time and over the last few weeks, this product has performed well.

The product is triclosan and paraben free. However, it includes glycerin, which is known to encourage years infections, particularly in women who are prone to them. For safety's sake, be aware of your own sensitivities. If you have not been tested for allergies, it would be a great idea to do so so that you can avoid any potential reactions from products such as these. It's also a good idea to do a spot test, as you would with any other beauty product. I'm curious to know if people who are lactose intolerant can use products that contain milk lipids as an ingredient. I did some research, but was unable to find a definitive answer. If you have more information, please comment and let me know!

The ingredients are as follows: Water (Aqua), Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus) Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Sodium Lauroamphoacetat, Cocamide MEA, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polyquaternium-7, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Althea Officinialis (Marshmallow) Extract, Milk Lipid, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of this body wash is very smooth. I actually find it a little too easy to pour. It is thin and runny, rather than thick and creamy. The consistency is only very slightly thicker than that of whole milk or whipping cream. It looks very much like milk, being pure white in color. It feels light, clean, and velvety.

It really does lather up quite well, creating a delicate and frothy foam. I find that it works best with a synthetic mesh bath pouf or with a natural loofah, though your bare hands will be able to create a decent lather also. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem nearly as effective with a washcloth. It's like the cloth just eats up all the suds.

Taste / Aroma

The scent is listed as Raspberry-Vanilla. It smells a bit like a raspberry cake, but it most reminds me of the artificial berry scent of the old Strawberry Shortcake dolls, with a bit of extra warmth from the vanilla. When you're washing with it, the aroma is quite strong, but once you've gotten out of the shower and toweled off, it is very subtle and fades even more at a fairly quick rate.

For the sake of the review, I decided to give it a small taste. It definitely tastes of soap, with a hint of vanilla and raspberry. Be aware that this product is not intended to be edible. You shouldn't intentionally ingest it, but getting a little bit in your mouth accidentally will not be a horrible experience.

Performance

Liberally applied to a pouf, the foaming wash easily lasts through washing my entire body. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, the scent does not linger as long as you might like it to. Compared to the lotions in this line with a similar smell and ingredients, the body wash really does not have a smell that lasts.

If you really adore the scent and want a product that will give you a lasting aroma, check out the Milk Made Velveteen Hand Creme. It smells identical and lasts for hours, with wonderful moisturizing properties. Used in conjunction with the Milk Made Frothing Bath and Shower Cream, the products perform extremely well. I'm confident that they will keep my skin well moisturized throughout the winter months. This is definitely the most appealing quality of this product.

I really do not like the thin consistency and wish that it was thicker. I also wish that the bottle came with a pump top, rather than a push cap. It would make controlling the amount of liquid so much easier!

Packaging

When you press down firmly on one side of the cap, it pops open, allowing you to tilt the bottle and pour out some of the liquid. It's very tricky to control the amount that comes out. If you try to close the cap while the bottle is still tilted, even more will come gushing out. You have to turn it right side up again before you close it. Once closed, it does not leak. I was traveling for the last two weeks and had this bottle with me. It did not leak or come open accidentally. Still, I would really prefer a pump lid instead!

The packaging really has no need of being discreet, since this is just a sweet, innocent bottle of body wash! It is a cute, minimally decorated, cylindrical bottle. The full bottle weighs in at one pound and is more than 8" tall and over 2.5" in diameter. The amount you get here is comparable to other common brands of body wash, just in a more compact bottle. All of these are within 16 to 18 fluid ounces. When you use up all 17 fluid ounces, be sure to recycle the bottle!

The front of the bottle looks like this:

The back looks like this:

The directions are available in English and French. They read:

"Nourish and gently cleanse your skin with this rich, creamy, and vitamin packed body wash. This dreamy lather is packed with avocado oil and shea butter to moisturize and whole milk and marshmallow extract to comfort, soothe, and protext skin. This is the ultimate in creamy, bubbly goodness. (Hottie Milk Man not included). Suds daily for the ultimate in soft, clean skin. Au lait!"

Personal comments

Initially, I felt that the scent of these products was a bit...cheap. It smelled plasticky and inexpensive. The aroma is somewhat sickly sweet, like an attempt at a berry-laced cupcake smell. It could be that I simply prefer other types of scents. I much prefer citrus and floral scents to berry or sugary scents that mimic baked goods. I've been using this body wash regularly for a couple of weeks and the scent has grown on me a bit.

Experience

I have definitely noticed an improvement in the softness and smoothness of my skin while using this product. No more dry elbows and cracked knuckles for me!
Follow-up commentary
I love this body wash. I use it multiple times a week and it is lasting FOREVER. It only takes such a small amount to create a ton of foam. It makes me feel clean and fresh and I love the smell of it.
