My Toys Look Brand Spankin' New
Works on all types of toys
Antibacterial
Somewhat misleading directions
I used to use a more soap-like toy cleaner but learned that my husband was drenching our non-waterproof toys to clean them. Since then, I've taken over cleaning duties and decided to switch to a spray. I thought this might be a better solution for cleaning toys that couldn't withstand a water cleaning.
Brand Spankin' is 4.5 fl. oz. and comes in a clear bottle with "toy cleaner" and "clean toys for dirty fun" written on the front. There will be no mistaking what its intended use is. The bottle looks about medium sized, but I managed to clean half of my collection with it and the bottle is still to the top.
When in use, this cleaner has no odor. Just for fun, I took off the top and smelled it. It smells like kid's bubbles. The kind you blow, not the kind you take a bath in. That's a little disconcerting since I really don't like the idea of blowing bubbles anywhere near my genitals. I'm still using it anyway, but I thought I should mention it.
The directions state "apply generously to toy surfaces, wait 30 seconds and wipe, rinse completely with clean water, use clean dry cloth to remove moisture." So here's the issue I have with that - if it's not a waterproof toy you shouldn't be rinsing it completely. That's toy destruction waiting to happen. Most people would know better but not all. See exhibit A: my husband. My directions for non-waterproof toys are to either spray the cleaner onto the toy avoiding any electrical parts and then wipe clean or to spray the cleaner onto a towel and use the towel to clean the toy. I find the first works better than the second , but you have to be a little more careful.
When used alone, this cleaner produces no suds and leaves very little reside. When used with water in place of soap you will get a very small amount of lather and absolutely no residue.
The ingedients are:
Cocamidopropyl, Betaine, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Laureth Sufate, Terasodium EDTA, Water
Active ingredient - Triclosan .30%
I had this cleaner in my travel bag for around an hour and a half with some leaks so be sure to store in a zip-top plastic bag for travel.
I found this to be an overall good cleaner. While it didn't work when I applied it to a towel first, it worked perfectly when applied directly to the toy or when used with water. I used about 4-6 sprays. I think I likely overdid it and that you could probably get away with 2-4 sprays. It left no yuck behind, got everything that was on my toys off, plus had antibacterial properties which is an extra plus for a germ freak like myself. It probably won't be the last toy cleaner I try, but I am very satisfied.
