Nice for massaging, but the warming is a bust.

The infrared massager is great for back massages and the interchangeable attachments give you more options than a regular massage would. While the power is nice and strong and the attachments are fun, the warming feature only adds a subtle warmth. If you're debating on this or a Hitachi, go with the latter. The Hitachi has attachments available and has the ability to get you off while this probably won't. However, it gives great back massages.

Use

The Infrared Rechargeable Massager has some handy features and some annoying ones. It can be used between couples for all over body massages as well as for solo use. As for using this to massage your own back, that could be possible as well, depending on your ability to reach your own back. However, you could use this to massage other parts of your body as well.

While this is probably best for body massages, it will work for clitoral stimulation as well. This can be used in most settings, but it is loud. Since it is a back massager though, the noise may not bother some as much as a vibrator's noise would.

The massager comes with 3 attachments and one side is supposed to heat up.

Material / Texture

This massager is made of food-grade material and is hypo-allergenic, latex and Phthalates free. The material of the massager itself is a very hard plastic while the interchangeable attachments are "soft touch" plastic. They are squishy and soft.

I didn't notice any scent to the massager and as for taste, there's no reason to taste it.

Now about the different attachments.
The massager on one side is a smooth, flat surface. This is the heating side. To activate the heat, turn the massager to the highest setting and it'll light up red to let you know it's heating which is a good thing because otherwise, I wouldn't be able to tell. In other words, I can't ever feel heat, a disappointment I'll get to in my own experience section.

The other side of the massager has a rolly spike permanantly there. It is not an extra attachment, but to add those extra attachments that it comes with, you simply stick em' on this part, right over the rolly spiky thing. You can choose from one of the three interchangeable attachments or just use the rolly spiky thing (I don't know what else to call it, sorry.) And if it so happens that you don't enjoy either of those, you can try to use the heating side.

Design / Shape / Size

The attachments include:
One flat, somewhat round attachment.
One super spiky attachment.
One with two spikes beside each other.

Attachments

Since my descriptions are pretty rough, seeing the photo of the attachments will probably be more helpful.
This is not insertable, but you can use the attachments to tease the external areas.

-The flat, somewhat rounded attachment works well if you don't need pin point stimulation, but prefer the vibrations to be distributed through a bigger area. Since it's slightly raised. My partner described it as a "pointed plateau". It's not my favorite. I never use that one.

-The second attachment is two points on either side. It happens to be my favorite. This one is great for pin point stimulation and using the cone-like points on either side of your clitoris can give you "rabbit style stimulation!" This idea may not work for everybody, but I like it. Don't get me wrong, it won't give you the kind of stimulation rabbit ears do, but it somewhat imitates that. The points are 3/4" long 3/4" of space lied between them. This means you have 3/4" of space to put in between those points. A clitoris fits well there.

The two pointed attachment does well for pin pointing the vibrations on a specific sore muscle as well. I find that the rounded attachment doesn't work well for applying pressure to your muscles and getting deep in there.

-The all over spiked attachment is not a favorite of mine. Those bristles are too flimsy to provide a deep massage. I don't have much use at all for this particular attachment. It would probably work for a pet brush/massage if you wanted to use your massager on your pet. I have not done it. The bristles kind of drag across your skin and that's it. These did nothing for me clitorally. I tried using the bristles for a scalp massage and it didn't please me, but the vibrations made me feel funny. However, this might be pleasant for someone who wanted a scalp massage.

-The permanant attachment (the spikey rolly thing) is actually nice! I use it a lot for massaging. You can roll it across your body or your partner's for a unique massage. The spikes aren't exactly pokey or even spikey, but I don't know a better way to say it. They're really just raised pokes. They are very noticeable though. While the pokes aren't tall, they do provide some deep muscle massages. Even with no pressure being applied, I can feel it rolling all over my muscles. I enjoy this one a lot, but it doesn't do well for clitoral stimulation. The pokes can be painful on the clitoris.

As for travelling, this is really just too big and bulky to bother with, but if you really wanted to you could. It will take up some space, more than a traditional vibrator would.

At only 1.5 pounds, this isn't tremendously heavy. My parnter and I have no problems using it. If you're massaging your self, your hands may become tired though. Unless you have arthritis or something of that nature, I wouldn't think you'd have to worry with getting hand cramps or joint pain.

This fits well in a plastic storage box full of other toys, but it takes up a significant amount of space compared to most toys. It will fit in a drawer or toy box if it is big enough. It will fit in a large purse as well. I wouldn't be upset if someone happened across this since it's clearly a back massager. It won't pass as something other than a massager though, so if that bothers you, be careful where you keep it.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This is pretty simple to use and I do like that there's so many neat features. You have three selections to set this on. There's a slidey button on the handle where you can slide it up for high, middle for low and down for off. A red button sits above the slide control and lights up when it's on.

One good thing about the massager is that it can be used with all lubricants without damaging the attachments.

For a good massage on sore, tired and achy muscles, this is a good massager, but I don't love it for clitoral stimulation. It doesn't feel anything like an actual vibrator to me, but that's not to say it isn't pleasant. However, I have to be in the mood to use this clitorally. Sometimes this will excite me a bit, as a warm up.

This can be used after two hours of charging and will work for about twenty minutes before lagging. Unfortunately, even when it's been charged for the full 12 hours, it doesn't last long. If you plan to use this for it's warming feature, I strongly advise you to find something else. When it's turned on high, the warming feature will be on and you'll feel the full power for less than 30 minutes and then it starts to slow down and be less powerful. Another reason why I would not recommend this if you're looking for heat is because it's only a subtle heat and most times I never feel the heat. After about an hour of use, it totally dies.

One feature I appreciate is the twist neck. You'll probably want to see my photo to understand this. You can twist the handle to make it easier for reaching some areas. This is great for reaching the clitoris as it puts less strain on your hands. Since the head of this is the heaviest, holding it by the handle can be annoying when using on the clitoris and for me, twisting the handle makes it easier to reach.

Located right below the "head" is a grey thing that, it's flexible and seems to be the same "Soft Touch" material that the attachments are made of. This feautre can be wonderful and it can also be a pain. It kind of makes the head pivot. When trying to apply pressure though, this flexible neck can make things harder on you. If you want to roll the head area a bit or "pivot", it'll serve you well. It's not so flexible that it bobbles so it probably won't actually cause problems for the user.

When turned on high, this is pretty powerful. I'm sure it won't give the Hitachi any real competition, but it'll serve it's purpose as a massager. The low setting is enough to perk me up, but won't really get deep into my muscles or turn me on when used clitorally. Someone who's never used vibrations clitorally may enjoy this thoroughly though. The medium setting is enough for a basic massage and it's strong. I really have nothing to compare these types of vibrations to so it's a little tough to describe.

It doesn't have mind blowing power, but comparing the strength only, this is kind of similar to my Freestyle. Make no mistake, the vibrations are nothing like Freestyle, but that's the closest item in strength that I own. I can say that both medium and high are pleasurable. Keep in mind, I'm not the kind of girl who needs intense, Hitachi strength, but the buzzy, high pitched vibrations don't cut it for me. This is somewhat buzzy, but since the vibrations are penetrative (a little) it works for me. I wouldn't describe the vibrations as very deep, but they are penetrative and rumbly. This is a step up from the surface only kind of vibrations. I hope this makes sense.

If you live in a dorm or have a roomate, I doubt you'll want to use this. It's loud. It can be heard through covers and a closed door at my house. With the TV turned up loudly, it won't be heard outside the room, but it's noisy enough that I won't use it if someone's in the room next to me. This requires extra noise to cover it up. The noise isn't like a vibrator though, it actually sounds like my epilator! I've become somewhat more comfortable using it with others in the house now that they're all used to hearing my epilator run. If you're in the bathroom it can be passed off as an electrical razor.
    • Lots of variety in function

Care and Maintenance

While all those neat attachments may look like a lot to care for, they're actually easier than most vibrators. A toy wipe or toy cleaner spray is all that's needed for the handle. If you use the attachment with massage oil, lubricant or on your lady bits, you can simply take them off the massager and wash them. They're small and everything rinses off well with warm water and soap. Most of the time a toy cleaner is all I need.

It's bigger than most vibrators, but it's not terribly difficult to store. If you have a drawer that works, but you could also find a pouch for it and hide it under the bed. It's not small.

Packaging

I really appreciate that California Exotic didn't trash the packaging of the massager to resemble all of their other products. It's a plastic package and has two snaps at the top that would be reusable, but it doesn't work well. It's larger than the massager and takes up a lot more space. It comes with paper inserts with words like "California Exotics" on it. There's no extra information and I suppose it's really not needed.

The packaging isn't lovely, but it certainly wouldn't deter me from gift-giving this massager. It would make a lovely gift.

Experience

I've had the infrared massager for right at a month now. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but I do love it. The warming was disappointing. When my partner went to use it for the first time on my back, we kept waiting for it to heat up and it wasn't enough to even be noticeable. I feel like Cal Exotics didn't put much effort at all into that part of the massager. If someone were to buy this with plans of using the heat, they would more than likely be sorely disappointed. However, I love the rolly spiked part for massaging as well as the attachment with two points.

What I like most about this particular massager is that applying pressure is never necessary as it rolls right over the muscles without the need to dig in.
