Peppermint Pussies

Love Liquid Tingling Peppermint by Kama Sutra is a thin, lightweight, water-based lubricant, intended to provide a cooling sensation when applied to the genitals. The cooling sensation is very mild and the runny consistency of this lubricant is not suited to my preferences. Its packaging is discreet and lovely, but the contents within are not quite as impressive.

Use

Love Liquid Tingling Peppermint by Kama Sutra is a lightweight, cooling lubricant. It is just one in a line of three water-based lubricants, also including a regular, unscented version and a cinnamon, warming version. In addition, Kama Sutra makes a silicone-based lubricant, known as Pleasure Potion. The directions are very straightforward. "Apply your preferred lubricant directly to the genital area. Use more as desired."

Though the box proclaims that Love Liquid is hypoallergenic and dermatologist-tested, the ingredients are as follows: Water, glycerin, propylene glycol, hydroxy ethylcellulose, tetrasodium EDA, citric acid, sodium benzoate, flavor/aroma.

It is very frustrating that they don't list the specifics of what creates the flavor/aroma. That could be very important information for someone with skin sensitivities. Presumably, the flavor and aroma is from peppermint extract, but...don't quote me on that.

Also, of note is the fact that this product has glycerin in it. Glycerin is a preservative and a sweetener. Those who are prone to yeast infections may wish to avoid using this product, as it is possible that it could encourage a reaction caused by an imbalance in the pH balance of the vagina. Oddly enough, the Kama Sutra website says of the Love Liquid line, "The moisturizing formulas were designed without yeast-promoting sugars, perfectly mirroring a woman's lubrication." Since glycerin is included, I'm uncertain upon what they're basing that claim...

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Kama Sutra describes this lubricant as "lightly textured", which is sort of a euphemism for "thin and runny". In terms of texture, there is good news and there is bad news. The bottle is full to the brim, which is great, but...It pours very, very easily. If you tilt the bottle close to horizontal, it will come rushing out. Don't you even dare tip it all the way upside down! You'll have an enormous mess on your hands! Fortunately, the formula is non-staining, so if you do make a mess this water-soluble lubricant should be fairly easy to clean up in the wash.

The feel of it is very silky and slick, almost like a silicone-based lubricant. It does not feel very similar to a woman's natural secretions. However, true to Kama Sutra's claims, it never becomes sticky or tacky and leaves the skin feeling light and moisturized, without the need to wash it off. It lasts an average amount of time for a water-based lubricant that is difficult to control and keep in place. It will almost certainly require reapplication during masturbation and even more so during intercourse.

Taste / Aroma

Love Liquid Tingling Peppermint tastes and smells quite lovely. It is a light aroma, but very minty. It leaves a gentle tingling sensation on the tongue when used during oral sex. The smell is exactly like York Peppermint Patties, though the taste doesn't quite measure up! It is still pleasant enough to make the switch from oral to penetration fairly easily. I would imagine that the tingling, cooling sensation would be even better with your partner's mouth blowing lightly on your skin. The smell does linger on your flesh, which I consider to be a bonus.

Performance

With a small drop of Love Liquid, the lubrication lasts about 30 seconds of steady rubbing. As mentioned above, it washes off easily with a bit of water and soap and absorbs nicely into the skin. Truthfully, it functions far better as a sensory experience than as a lubricant. If it was somewhat thicker, it would feel more natural and likely last longer.

More on the cooling effects in the Special Features section.

Packaging

This lubricant comes in a thin, black cardboard box with a small window on the front that displays the color and label on the bottle inside. The bottle is propped on a flimsy cardboard shelf inside of the box and is sealed in perforated plastic shrink wrap, similar to the plastic on a new tube of lipstick or eyeliner. The box and the bottle itself are recyclable, though I'm not sure about the plastic wrap.

The box and the bottle are both very classy and fairly discreet. The bottle says nothing about sex or lubricant, simply labeled "Kama Sutra, Love Liquid". If one did not look too closely, it may just look like a nice bottle of lotion. The top and front of the box say: "Kama Sutra, Making love better, Premium sensual lubricant". The back says: "Designed to enhance a woman's natural response, this water-based, non-staining formula adds an exciting, tingling element to intimate encounters. Love Liquid Tingling Peppermint is a lovemaking essential that leaves a fresh minty touch on the skin." It says the same in French, Spanish, and German.

The shape of the bottle's top makes pouring and controlling the amount and direction very difficult. The bottle is an oblong cylinder with a flat top and bottom. The broad, flat top has a secure flip cap in the center with the opening inlaid into the top of the bottle. The lube has a tendency to get all over the top and the front of the bottle, since it is so thin and runny.

The only instructions say..."Use externally". Thanks, Kama Sutra! ;)

Special Features

This product is intended to provide a cooling sensation. The sensation is very mild. There is a soft, slight cooling feeling. I find that the sensation is most noticeable when I apply the lubricant to my skin and then leave it alone to work its magic. If I rub and touch, the cooling feeling is far less noticeable, if at all. The sensation is not as powerful as I'd hoped.
Follow-up commentary
I have not picked this product up since I did this review. In fact, I am considering giving it away as a gift this Christmas. Its peppermint scent is perfect for the holiday season and perhaps it can find a new lease on life with someone who will use it more often than I.

This was my first brush with Kama Sutra's products, though I've been eyeing their massage oil gift sets for ages. I will give the brand the benefit of the doubt and will even keep an eye out for updated products like this from them, since this is among their first forays into the realm of lubrication. There's always room for improvement!
