extremely useful review

Ride Silicone Lube by Sliquid is a high quality, pure silicone based sex lube. It can be used almost anywhere that you would want to use lube, with the exception of silicone toys. More on that later. Silicone lubes have some terrific advantages over other types of lubes - silicone is biologically inert (no infections or "bugs" growing), it stays WAY SLICK for a long time without drying out, you don't need much to begin with and you don't have to add much later on. The higher end silicone lubricants, like Ride, have a much smoother feeling than cheaper ones. The small difference in price is well worth it. Ride lube is perfect for vaginal use; both foreplay and penetration. For men, this is a great lube for masturbation. During anal play this is also a great choice due to its tremendous slipperiness, but some users might want something more viscous. This is the 4.2 fl. oz. size pictured - it is a good size to buy to try it out, although it will last a long time! The larger 8.5 fl. oz. bottle is more economical.

Ride silicone lube also makes an outstanding shaving lotion for legs, face, and all sensitive areas. For the latex ware fans, this puts an especially high sheen and polish on latex fetish gear and is safe to polish plastics of all kinds. Did I mention that it is also a superb massage oil? Ride Silicone Lube is a very versatile product!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The consistency of Ride Silicone Lube is something between a syrup and water, being closer to a water viscosity. A little of this lube goes a long way. This particular size comes in a cylindrical bottle with a press type dispenser top, similar to some shampoos.

Bottle Cap

While it is easy to dispense, it does tend to come out quickly. I learned right away that it doesn't take much force to squeeze a lot out!

The outside of the bottle does tend to get very slick with the product - a little can easily spill down the side, especially if I reach for a bit more lube in the heat of the action. Unfortunately, it is somewhat difficult to remove lube that has spilled by wiping alone. I suppose washing the bottle with soap and hot water would fix this, but I'm OK with a slightly slick bottle. The feeling of the lube is not at all sticky, but smooth and silky and lustrous. The best thing about this is that it stays that way under use - it doesn't dry up like water based lubes or get tacky in the slightest - it just keeps on and on performing slickly.

Taste / Aroma

Silicone lubes such as Ride have a very high degree of inertness. In simple terms this means that they have absolutely no smell, positively no taste and very low occurrence of allergic reaction. If I'm kissing my wife's labia and clit after having applied this I can feel it - it feels slippery, but it has absolutely no taste. It also doesn't mask her natural taste. I find that when all is said and done a little soap and water can easily remove it from my face!
    • No smell
    • No taste

Ride Silicone lube is a long lasting champ!! A half a teaspoon or so applied to my cock or to my partner's pussy is plenty to do the job. We usually don't need to reapply this product. A few drops more drizzled in the right spot and we are ready for a favorite toy in the bum. This does wonders for a glass dildo! We like the feeling of this on our hands as we touch other, but some people may find that they like to wipe it off right away. Silicone lubes are not water soluble - this means that soap and water are needed for cleanup. We usually like a shower not too long after using this and it comes off fairly easily in the shower. Like any non-water based liquid (cooking oil, motor oil, Vaseline, etc.) it has the potential to stain fabrics, but if spots are pretreated with a good detergent this washes right out and hasn't been a problem for us.
    • Feels natural
    • Long lasting
    • Needs to be washed off with soap and water

The bottle that Ride lube comes in is it's only slight drawback. As I mentioned previously the outside of the bottle can become slippery if the liquid is spilled. In light of the way this product performs this is less than a minor annoyance. Almost not worth mentioning. Almost.

Special Features

One important characteristic often mentioned in association with silicone lubes is that you should never use them with silicone toys. They will explode or become sentient and attack you or bond permanently to your forehead. So the rule is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use silicone lubes with silicone toys.

Having said that, the truth is a little more complex. A very pure silicone lube like Ride with only three simple ingredients (Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol - well, simple for silicone!) CAN be safely used with a high quality silicone toy. I have a Tantus silicone cock ring that I use with Ride lube and I have never had any problem. The Tantus website discusses this reactivity in some measure, (here is the link got lube?) and offers this simple test:

"You can do a patch test on the bottom flange base of most dildos or plugs to see if a reaction occurs between your toys and your lube. The reaction is immediate. The only way you will be able to clean the silicone lube off the toy if it begins to bond, is by scraping it. If there's no reaction and the lube stays slick, you can feel free to use that brand of silicone lubricant on that toy."

So, there ya go. I was willing to try with a high quality, relatively inexpensive toy and it works great. Your mileage may vary. Caveat emptor. My editor hates me now.

Personal comments

Having arrived at a time in our lives when Mother Nature may need some help, whether that time is your fifth decade or second, it is a wonderful thing that lubes can be purchased and used. Also, my bottom has NEVER had its own source of lube! At one time lubes like KY jelly were all that were available. While it worked, it left a lot to be desired as a lube. My wife and I first started out with lubes using a more modern-era water based lube; better than good ol' KY, but not without its drawbacks. Welcome to the 21st century and silicone lubes! Ride by Sliquid is the first silicone lube that we purchased. This was not by accident. After much research, this was the lube we chose. It has a level of purity (only three ingredients), a reputation for performance and value, and high regard from consumers. And we LOVE it!! It is smooth, silky and SLICK. My wife loves the feeling when I pour a little (you don't need much!) on her clit and work it into her pussy and ass. Her bottom can be a little sensitive, but with this lube anal stimulation is always a pleasure for her. I love the feeling when she puts in on me and strokes my cock - it is mind-blowing! For lovemaking it is wonderful. No matter how long we go rarely do we need to add any more, and then it's just a drop! I love this for toys, or fingers for my ass. It is so slippery that it really adds to the pleasurable sensations rather than becoming a distraction.
Follow-up commentary
This is still our favorite lube. Under most circumstances, this is our go to product. A pump dispenser would make it perfect, but it's as close as you can get to perfect now!!

Great review. I think I'm looking for something thicker, but this looks like an outstanding all-purpose lube.
