If Only It Were Longer

I fell in love with the Rocher Chic design after buying the babydoll. I knew I had to have the dress to go along with it for the next time I went out. I was super sad when I tried it on and it barely covered my butt. Every step I have to pull it down or flash someone. This means I can't exactly wear it out of the house as intended. It's also too small in the hip area and the fabric pulls badly. The dress is sexy in an edgy way, but the fit just isn't right.

Coquette's Fishnet Studded Trim Dress is part of their new Rocher Chic line. This line also includes a babydoll and bustier. The dress is just the dress with removable straps.

PACKAGING

The dress is protected in plastic wrapping. It is hung on a padded hanger.

SIZING

You can purchase the dress in sizes S-XL. I have this in the medium. For the medium I should wear a dress size 8-10. I should have a B cup with bust measurement between 36"-38". My waist should measure between 28"-30". My hips should measure between 38"-40".

The medium dress is 25.5" long. Under the bust is 13.75". The waist is 13.75". The hips are 17". The very bottom is 19.5". The straps are adjustable. The back is not.

My dress size is a 6. My waist is 28". My hips are 39". My cup size is a 34DD/36D. I am 5'6". The dress fits in some areas but not in others. It fits me well in bust and waist. The cups are not underwire but are lightly padded which gives it some support. The cups are large enough to accommodate larger chest sizes. Smaller chest sizes may not be able to fill out the top of the dress. The waist area I have some extra room in, especially with the stretch of the material. It would fit waists larger than mine, up to what the size chart lists.

The two problems I had with fit were in the hips and in length. At the hips the material bunched up badly. I'm larger in the hips but still in size range for the Coquette medium. The dress pulled all over the place at my hips and just generally looked like I was trying to squeeze into it. Then there was a length issue. On me (at 5'6", which I assume is average) this dress comes right to my butt cheeks. If I move an inch, it rides up where you can begin to see my butt. I have to pull the dress down every second to avoid flashing someone. If you intend to use this in the bedroom, you may be able to attach garters to help this. If you're going to wear it out, there's not much that can be done to remedy it.

MATERIAL

The dress is made of 80% nylon and 20% spandex exclusive of trim. This is a shiny purple material that makes up the inside of the dress. This material is what touches the body. It's similar to bathing suit material in feel and thickness. It is very comfortable to wear and feels silky against the skin. It causes no itching or irritation.

DESIGN

The entire dress is made of the purple bathing suit material. It's a deep royal purple. On top of this material a black fish net is layered. This is a separate material and can be lifted up from the purple fabric. It is sewn together at the seams. Under the bust there are black studs for an added effect. These are sewn together and then sewn down into the dress. The back does not have the studs. The back is simply the purple with black fish net with a black piping at the top.

The straps are removable and adjustable. The cups are very lightly padded all the way through. They do not have any underwire in them but provide enough support that I would feel comfortable wearing this without a bra. There is a seam that goes down the middle of the cups.

QUALITY

I did find a few loose threads near many of the seams on this dress. The straps even had some loose threading. This piece probably has the most loose threads of any of my Coquette pieces. The seaming is done well, however, and lines up nicely everywhere.

CARE

This dress should only be hand washed. It should be line dried. It can not be placed in the drier. It should not be ironed or bleached.
Experience
I had originally gotten the babydoll in this collection. While I didn't like it as a standalone, I thought it made a cute top for going out. I really liked the design details on it and decided I needed to have the dress to wear out. It won't really work for that purpose due to the length and how tight it is in the hips. If it were just tight in the hips I may be willing to deal with the pulling. The fact that I'm at risk of flashing someone with every step makes me uncomfortable wearing this out of the house. I was tempted to send this back and get the large, but then I was concerned it would be too large in the waist and that it still might not be long enough. Plus I don't like returning things unless they're defective (because it's a pain to get to UPS or the post office!).

I really like the way this dress looks. It's sexy and different from other dresses I have. The fishnet layer and studs give it an edge that I love. If it was just a little longer and a bit bigger in the hips, this would be my favorite dress ever. Since that's not the case, I'm giving it three stars for looking sexy but ultimately not being something I can wear.
