Racer corset - corset discontinued by Coquette - review by js250

The Racer Corset is a well constructed corset with minimal boning for comfort. It comes in a plastic costume bag that has a hanger attached for storage, I usually perfume a small bit of cloth to put in the bottom to remove the plastic bag smell and to freshen your outfit.

I showed my Racer to my husband after I received it and he thought it was really nice. I tried it on when he was in the shower and made all the adjustments and was checking out the fit when he popped out for a towel and surprised me. Well, lets just say the surprise was for me, he forgot the towel and went for his flag girl instead! This is one of his favorite corsets for me to wear now.

The material differs from the description, I do not think this is all polyester since there are three different materials incorporated in the design. The back is a slightly stretchy polyester with 2 rows of hook and clasp closures. This makes it nice for adjusting the fit in the bust, waist and bottom of the corset. I had mine adjusted on the outer hooks for about four inches, both top and bottom and then the inner hooks for the waist area. This helps the fit and defines the curves better.

The front has a stiffer cotton material for the black and checkered areas, but was still very comfortable. The red area is a very thin 'faux leather' vinyl. The vinyl tends to wear rather rapidly and needs a bit of care to keep it fresh and prolong the wear. The boning is a softer plastic and is minimal for comfort, however does not promote flaw tucking and curves like other more rigid corsets. They tend to follow your natural shape. They are covered in the red vinyl, so they will wear faster than if covered in other materials. The zipper is very stiff and I had to lube it with a bit of baby oil on a cloth - make sure you do not get this on the material. I love the zipper, you can pull it down for some cleavage or just use it for ease of getting it on and off. I teased my husband with cleavage levels and was happily rewarded for the little peep show.

There are two removable shoulder straps that help keep the top in place if you are either a smaller chested or larger chested woman. I am a 42D, my waist is a 32 and my hips are 42 and the straps helped add some length to the corset. The sizing is pretty correct, I had to order an XL, but if you have any doubt, please order a size larger! It can be adjusted or taken in for a perfect fit.

I did notice that a side view somewhat flattened the bust into the waist, and there was definite bunching on the back hook and eye area. I sewed on some of my old under wires from a bra I had on each side of the hook & clasp area to stiffen it, this worked wonders!! The seams are very well sewn and sturdy, there was no loose threads.

I hand washed this with Woolite and let it air dry overnight. I put the cardboard insert back in and hung it in my closet in the bag it came in and was happy with the short term storage. I can see the hanger ripping out in a few months.

The Racer is still one of my favorite bustiers! There was a bit of problem with the boning starting to become misshapen, but that resolved itself on removal and hand washing. I use woolite and cold water to clean the Racer and then hang it up to air dry. The mishap with the boning happened when I kept the bustier on during sex. In certain positions, (like on top) I would recommend removal! Otherwise the plastic boning does poke him, you and bulges out in funny areas.

The vinyl areas are still in great shape, and there has been no stretching or unsightly areas on this lingerie, yet. I have worn this for approximately 32 hours, not steady, of course! I have washed it four different times and have had only one stray thread on the bottom of where I added my underwire on the back.
