Calla Me Impressed

As a long-time Fun Factory fan, I have to say that the G4 Calla blows my expectations out of the water. Fun Factory keeps creating elegant, easy-to-use and powerful vibrators out of quality materials. Calla feels looks and feels luxurious, a feat that is not so easily accomplished as every manufacturer tries their hand at rechargeable, silicone toys. Calla is specifically wonderful for others who prefer shorter insertables.

extremely useful review
True to its name, the design of the Calla is lily-inspired. The shaft seems to wrap around itself in gentle ridges while, toward the base, there is one petal extending to stimulate the clitoris. Fun Factory is taking a new direction with the base of its G4 vibrators; the base is now oblong and features a loop through which you can fit a couple of fingers to control the toy.

Over time, I have come to prefer shorter insertables. That was one of the deciding factors when I decided to purchase the Calla over the Tiger in the G4 line. This toy is smaller than a lot of Fun Factory toys I have had the pleasure of trying. Although the product description states you can insert up to 5" this isn't entirely true because the clitoral stimulator isn't straight across. Toward the front of the vibrator you can really insert only about 4". This is just fine by me as my cervix has become increasingly grouchy. The last 1.5" or so of the shaft are flexible and you can bend them but as the toy becomes girthier toward the base, you cannot. The lack of flexibility in this area is also due to the fact that the rigid plastic of the base extends into the shaft.

The shaft has a diameter a little over 1.5" at the widest, toward the base, but the shaft is significantly smaller toward the end. The gradual increase in size of the Calla makes insertion pretty easy, even with the ridges. You'll maybe want to use a little more lube as the textures--yes multiple--on this vibrator can cause a bit of drag. I was surprised to find that the exterior of the silicone has different textures in different places. I find it difficult to find the right words but around the ridges and where one would expect G-spot stimulation on the front of this toy, the silicone is a bit "rougher." It becomes almost smooth, but not glossy, in other parts. The grape is a gorgeous, deep purple with just a hint of fuchsia. It stands out from the other purples in my collection.

The clitoral stimulator is a little disappointing--pun intended. I guess it just looks a little longer in the images than it actually it. It only extends from the shaft between 1/2" and 3/4" an inch and my clitoris is further from my vaginal opening than that. Unfortunately, I can usually make up for this by bending a toy toward my clitoris but the shorter design of the Calla, coupled with the rigid inner mechanism, prevented me from doing so. I would really like to see a longer clitoral arm on the Calla to remedy this. Unfortunately, I am a clitoral orgasm kind of gal and I just couldn't achieve one with this shortcoming.

Nevertheless, I was impressed with the function of the G4 calla. Fun Factory uses soft buttons that are easy to press. They're really perfected them over time because they are quite stiff on some of my older toys. There are five or six levels of steady vibration that you control with + and - buttons. A nice feature of the newer Fun Factory toys is that the controls light up when you touch them, helping you to see.

At first I was confused by the third button because it looks like the boost button on other Fun Factory toys but this is not the case. While it does appear to boost, and makes the vibrations incredibly strong and rumbly, it also seems to operate some pulsation settings. They're not necessarily that unique from each other but feel quite nice. Even without this extra oomph, Calla offers vibrations more deep than shallow--which I love. It's definitely not the strongest toy I've tried but it rivals some of my favorites without waking the neighbors. You're safe to use it in the shower or behind a closed door, sound-wise.

I also found the loop on the base to be quite useful. I have short arms so it can sometimes be awkward to hold a toy at the very end. This gives me an extra inch or so of leeway, while allowing me to firmly grip the Calla.

This toy also uses Fun Factory's magnetic click and charge system. I'm not in love with it because I have trouble getting the magnetized charging adapter to stay in place but it works well enough and allows Fun Factory's toys to be completely waterproof--you can take this lily into the pond with you!

Overall, the Calla is a much better vibrator than most luxury toys and cheaper to boot.
Experience
It's interesting that while this toy didn't even get me off, it's still one of the best purchases I've made in months, perhaps even years.
